My painted skis, with explanation

The white glows in the dark REALLY well. The glow is like neon blue.

Skis are a pair of Line Assassin mtx pros, 177cm used one season

i started by sanding the old topsheets down with a very rough grit sandpaper, taking off alot of the old epoxy. then i sanded it smooth again. i taped the bases and all of the edges, and put plastic bags over the bindings.

THE TYPE OF PAINT THAT YOU USE IS VERY IMPORTANT....i have tried this before with a latex based paint and it didnt work very well at all. i went to wallmart and bought car paint, which is a lacquer based paint. id recommend trying to buy paints and primer that are all from the same brand, just because it insures that they are compatible with each other. i used regular primer, but i wish i had used filler primer. it probly would have done a little better job filling in all of the dings and shit in the topsheets that i couldnt sand out.

so i put one coat of primer on and then wet sanded it with 400 grit sand paper (i just dipped the paper in water, it worked really well) until it was really smooth. i waited a day and then painted them.

i waited another day after i painted them and then sprayed a whole can of glow in the dark clear coat on them. the next day my dad took them to work and wet sanded them again, and put 8 coats of heavy clear lacquer on them. they shined up really well after the 8 coats of lacquer.

constructive criticism is greatly appreciated...

 
some shots of them in the dark! also let us know how the paint holds up, the last pair i painted had about 6 coats of clear protective and it still chipped after pretty heavy use
 
before you go night skiing, put them under a bright light. then take a pic of you in the air, with glowing skis. That'd be sick
 
I'm not a fan of the design really, but the way you did it seems like it should hold really well.

Nice job though overall.
 
haha sick! glow in the dark skis.... those could look pretty cool. See if you can get a night pic.
 
the longer you wait until you use them after clear coating them, the better. the lacquer gets alot harder over time, so i would recommend waiting at least 2 days
 
i tried that a couple years back with some groove skiboards but i didnt put enough clear coat on it and eventually it all just peeled off
