My opinion on legalizing marijuana

theres tons of this thrown around on this forum and quite frankly im getting sick of people blabbering about how bad it would be for the US to legalize marijuana. So this is how it is.

Answer me this, what makes smoking so great sometimes? Of course its not JUST the feeling of the high. Wether your too 'proud' to admit it or not the fact that marjuana is illegal, adds to the excitement of tokin up. Its the, 'rebellious' or 'cool' thing to do, thats why most(not all) kids take their first hit anyways. plus after youve gotten into the habit of smoking here and there rolling your own shit is fun, packing your own bowls is fun an so on and so on. so if marijuana was legal and was available down at the local drug store in a 20 pack of pre rolled joints would it still be as fun to smoke? i dont think so.

having that been said, heres my main point. yes todays generation of people who smoke pot would probabaly do it more and mabye try other drugs because of pot and that could cause some problems in the short run. BUT once that generation has been phased out and young kids are brought up with marijuana adds and users all around them i can guarentee that it would be used much less as that generation hits their teens. ill use nicotine as an example. cigs are all around us all the time, theres no mystery to a cig and most people find it nasty so they never even bother with the shit. alcohol in italy is another thing, kids drink wine at dinner from the age of like 8. its part of the culture so raging alocoholics are not much of a problem in italy. the long term effects of legalizing pot would be so great for the US.

all in all, anything that is legal that was once illegal will not be rebelllious and cool anymore, therefore it will not be abused as much. end of the fuckin story. later.

if you smoke to be cool or a rebel, your smoking for stupid reasons, smoke to have fun or a niiice time or somthin, dont smoke to impress, chances are people know you are smoking just to look cool and will talk shit when your not around

i didnt mean to say that people that smoke all the time do it to be cool, but rather their first hit is taken usually because of peer pressure. do you get what im sayin though? everybody that smokes gets a little excitement in the fact that its illegal, if it was legal, it would be more boring.

I'm pretty high right now. And if pot was legalized I don't think I would smoke it as much, for one I would have less of a reason for my parents not to find out, so I wouldn't hide it and then they'ed know I'm a no good pot head. As long as I have to hide it from the police, it'll be hidden from them, and that's a good thing.

I'v said from the start, leaglize it, sell it like other tobacco products and tax the living hell out of it. this works out good for everybody. the burnouts dont have to worry about getting busted and can get their 'fix' from the local grocery store, and Mr. Bush gets (probably) a shit load of extra cash to dump into important areas, like public exicutions and education and all kinds of stuff like that.

the reason they wont legalize it is because everybody in politics are too pussy to stand up and support it. if it ever becomes legal there needs to be an industry, and right now, no politicians or industries are stepping up and giving the ok.

what drugs are legal in this country are determined by what the rich people want, not the effect of the drug on society. take a look at alcohol and ciggaretts they kill more people every year in this country than all the illegal drugs combined. now why is this? hmmmmm?

the point is weed and most other illegal drugs impair you. and there is no way to tell how high someone is. unlike how intoxicated they are.

wrong phrosty. alcohol and tobacco are still legal because they give the people in government cash money. The huge companies that produce alcohol and tobacco pour tons of money into the governments coffers in order to keep drinking and smokin cigs legal, betcha didnt know that. if there wasnt a huge industry behind alcohol and tobacco they would have been made illegal years ago. and because there is no big industry backing all of the illegal drugs in our country(especially marijuana) they will never be legal until somebody wants to invest in an industry for them. 52 percent of all traffic accidents are a result of intoxication. the traffic accidents that result from other drugs is less than one percent. the legality of a drug is determined not by its effect on society, but its effect on the money the government will make, its all politics bullshit.

but why, when all of the big tobbacco companyies have progrmas that would be ready to produce blunts and joints within 1 year of legalization, would the government still kepp illegal, they know they would make money from it, they just dont care because they would make a fair amount but nothing to be trippin over, if it was legal, THEN EVERYBODY WOULD GROW IT IN THEIR BACKYARDS.

to all of the people that posted about 'if you're smoking to be cool you're smoking for the wrong reasons.' if you drink, then why do you drink? you're not doing it to be 'cool'. but there are many people that I've met that don't drink, not because they don't like the way it makes them feel, or because they want to be hardcore straightedge. They don't drink because it's always been there for them, they grew up in a home where they were offered alcohol all of the time. I knew a girl from jamaica, it was the same way for her, her thinking was 'I don't know why I never really smoked weed, it was always just right there, but not everyone smokes, it was just never a big deal.'

we dont need herb to be legalized -we just need the federal government to respect the states laws. right now in cali you can go to humbolt, pay a doctor $100 and get a fully legal medical card. with a card you can legally have something around 15 plants flowering at a time you can go to cannabis clubs and buy the sickest dank and you can even sell your herb you grow to the club.

when you said not many people smoke cigarettes thats wrong. At least around here. It seems like every kid at my high school smokes. I do agree that legalizing pot and alcohol would make it less cool and less people would do it. I talked to a kid from europe and he said it just wasnt cool to go out and get trashed every weekend.

the reason a tobacco company doesnt want to step up and take on the marijuana industry is because even if the government is all for it, the masses wont be. way too many people are ignorant from the truth and there will be mass boycotting and rioting and all that other bullshit about marijuana being legal. this would flaw the companies reputation real bad and they wouldnt do very much business, it all comes back to CASH once again.
