So personally i feel like the push to have poles in comp is good but lets not create anymore rules that can hinder peoples style, some of the points mentionned didnt make sense tho. Why should we care about the outside publics opinion if they dont care about us. Im just scared this sport is starting to lose the “free” in freestyle with all thats happening. Fuck you FIS

You want it to look better than it actually is for the olympics so you don’t personally feel insecure about external judgments we got it

not like if those people that got interested in this sport wouldnt see the bad parts

I don’t live in an area where people ski, when I tell people I’m into skiing / show them clips of people skiing park with no poles they usually go something like,

“No poles? That’s kinda sick” or “yeah I always thought holding those poles would be pretty annoying” or “damn, when I tried skiing I hated it because I had to keep track of my skis and poles and ran them over a few times”

This whole, “we want to make a good impression on the outside world” seems so dang un-self aware and is coming from people who grew up watching skiing, and are used to the poles.

No poles makes skiing seems more freeing and badass to young people who have grown up skating/surfing/snowboard etc.

What if poles were just worth a +1 to your score. Like I know it’s kinda dumb but they make things harder and if poles are really your style you can just be better

People don’t ski without poles to please the outside world, they do it because it feels nice as hell to have you hands free. Wether it’s while skiing, or even just being able to grab your phone easier / not having to sit on them in the lift.

it’s just more free feeling in the park

thats it personally the poles or no poles for me isnt the problem in what freeskiing sweden said. Its the pleasing the outside world part, the outside world doesnt give a fuck about us so why should we care about what they think of us anyways if they got into the community they would see its very different from what you see at the olympics

Ah yeah I see, 100% true. I think the biggest demographic skiing can currently win over is the skater types, showing my friends who don’t ski stuff like zootspace, they actually think it’s sick

I think we're all in agreement. We're all against making poles mandatory but we agree that people should be judged accordingly for using poles/ no poles, right?

yeah after all we gotta keep the free in freeskiing. im for judging accordingly depending on poles only if we get told how the point system works

yes the skaters would be ideal people for this sport

the poles / no poles debate shouldn’t be decided by how it looks to non-skiers. Why would that matter?

yup and it should be judged accordingly but still allowed to have no poles as its freestly after all and i mean free is in the name

There is no higher level of skiing than that of a perfected style WITH poles. See the grace of Duncan Adams, Antti, Delorme, Harlaut, Ez Panda etc... The levels of steeze are simply unrivaled. The only thing that truly comes close to this mastering of sport is Ahmets steeze, which.. Is only matched by few. Im all for no poles in the park, and all for supporting having your OWN style whether it be with or without poles..

They should definitely make people ride the right size ski and dock points for no poles. Don’t force people to use poles, but it should definitely have an impact on scoring…
