My NS Intro

Hey guys, I'm new here to the newschoolers site and forum. Just thought I'd make a quick thread and introduce myself. My names oliver, and I've been skiing for 15 of my 17 years on earth. I used to do a whole lot of competitive racing, 8 years of it. But I kinda decided that I learned all I can from racing, and plan on joining my local mountains freeride team this winter. I can do some basic tricks, a 360, some small rails, and just basic stuff. I've never given parks a whole lot of attention. It's pretty much the only main type of skiing i don't have much experience in.
Beside's racing, a lot of my other experience comes from bigger mountains. I love me some backcountry skiing when I can, and love the pow when I can get some. Being from PA, the local mountains aren't much to look at. That's why racing is popular, its all ice. I make my way up to vermont/maine a few times a year, and jackson hole/ grand targhee once a year.
Besides a bunch of slalom, gs, and super g skis which suck if you're not racing, I have two pairs of skis. I have a pair of 2009-2010 185cm Armada JJs mounted with Fritschi Diamir Freeride touring bindings, and a pair of 2010-2011 Moment Reno Jibs mounted with Saloman sth14 Driver bindings.
I am also looking into picking up a pair of super fat skis, like 120mm+ waist for out west. Suggestions would be welcome:)
So yeah, thats pretty much sums it up. Glad I found newschoolers, seems like an awesome community. Looking forward to more time here on NS, and of course, looking forward to the winter:)

Well you broke the biggest barrier the first post. And it went a hell of a lot better then most 1st posts. Welcome to ns

in your same position like half a year ago except i sucked way more , i don't know what i'd do if i never found newschoolers, thanks to this site freeskiing has quickly become a huge part of my life and i am so glad it has, thank you newschoolers and welcome to this amazing website

didnt some kid make an intro thread too, asking for friends. it was pretty funny but theres something you need to know since you are new. that is post threads in the right category. for example, this thread belongs in the non-ski gabber. look up threads before posting because most likely your question will be answered. one more thing, not everyone on here is all peaches and nice.

Ahh... my bad. And yeah I've seen some nasty posts but figured if I could write a nice intro I could avoid some of the assholes. But thanks man.
And thanks to the rest of you guys, for the warm welcome:)

welcome haha. Yeah basically not everyone will be nice here. Some people are dicks. Also that was the greatest first post I've seen. also for pow skis k2 makes sweet pow skis with rocker. Also Volkl has a couple nice ones. since your new I won't hate but use the search bar or google questions before posting a question thread. cheers.

Welcome, ns is a great, but sometimes terrible place. See the quote in my sig.

have any gs skis you're selling? i need a pair for skicross

Just remember, Karma is visual respect. The higher it is the more everyone respects you

Oh, and welcome to Newschoolers

But don't stress about it. The best way to lose it is to care about it. It's a number on the internet...

I like your style, welcome to newschoolers. Big things to remember here:

Post videos in the video section, unless they aren't ski related (short films), or you're looking for advice on an edit/short you've made, in those cases you may post them in the Media/Arts forum.

Familiarize yourself with the different forums and what is appropriate to post where.

There's a little bar at the top right of your screen. This is the search bar, use this to find anything from pictures to threads in order to prevent yourself from re-posting something that someone has already shared. Always search before you post.

I'm really tired, so all I have left to say is good night and good luck.

if Emma_Watson likes you your set. Oh and if you get nudes from her. Its a rule you have to post pics.

glad to see a new member with nice grammar, capitalization (not that i use it) and can carry himself nicely on the internet. people like you get good first impressions here because they sound educated and willing to actually discuss the main topic in a thread unlike half of the twelve year old that spend their time offering their parents money on jiberish. don't post too many memes. don't worry about karma. although more is better and gets you more respect, you can't just beg for it. hook people up in the buy/sell section, and check people's feedback, karma, and make sure they have their own pictures before buying from things from people. don't make pointless threads showing us this "cool new tom wallisch superunknown edit." if you want to learn more about something, google it and searchbar it first, and make a thread as your last resort. don't ask us what outerwear looks best with your boots. try to post threads in the right section. try to be nice, although others won't. and lastly, if you didn't understand half of that stuff or why i said any of it, you'll learn plenty quick if you can survive your first few posts here. i'm not accusing you of any of the above, it's just very easy to get annoyed with the new members these days. read the guides to NS in the site discussion forum, as well as "stickied" threads in the gear talk and buy/sell section.

it looks like you're off to a good start, and this could be the longest post i've ever made. don't get sucked it like i did.

Thanks for the links, I read all three. Most of it's just common sense, but on the Internet, that's hard to come by.

Also, I attempted to upload an avatar, made sure it's 50x50,

Crap, IPod browser didn't complete the post-

Anyway, my avatar isn't working for some reason, and I made sure it conformed to the requirements.

yeah about that.....

the icon uploader is broken at the moment so a lot of people are having the same trouble as you.

if i were you i would just stick with the default icon for now until the uploader is fixed.

welcome to newschoolers

welcome to ns. i already like you better then all the other newbs who joined today. don't get too caught up in tall tees, but lord knows its hard

Also, the NS search function kinda blows, you're better off googling newschoolers.com

Favorite new member ever.

the best first post ever! Welcome, its kinda crazy how things develop on this site, for instance as you start to get more familiar with the site, you'll notice gear heads that rarely leave gear talk, people all consumed with fashion, those that are on top of every new trick ever thrown, and you start to get a picture of individual members personalities. Its really a cool thing. Oh and the best way to avoid losing ur karma, don't post drunk and angry...lol. Oh and as far as the 120+ skis go, I would look at something big and burly, even something like the salomon rocker. I know its not a twin, but it would round out ur quiver well, and give u something to take out on those pow days at jackson when u just wanna go mach bigger lines (assuming that ur a fairly big kid who knows how to handle big skis as u got 185 jjs two years ago). Cheers

Welcome. I was just wondering, why do you want fatter pow skis if you already have 185 jj's? That seems like a solid ski for pow. Neverless, I would recommend the 181/191 ON3P caylor. 120 underfoot, massive rocker, best pow ski I've ridden.

Jj is a powder ski but it has become their 1 quiver ski/ in bounds more than a bc ski. I love it, but if youre getting serious and an ns bc skier, wider is more fun. Benchetlers = sex.

Bullshit it is a easily modified highly subjective e number That.IMHO does little or nothing to add to this place If anything I think it detracts.

The fact that you and a lot of others see it as a sign of respect helps validate that arguement. Quite a few here seem to see it that way and many are karma addicts/whores and would be on their proverbial knees sucking man root for the +K

Blessed are those who are secure enough with who they are that they can post how they feel and if those posts garner respect so be it

If your need for +karmas is that great or your so stupid you cant figure out how to easily feed that need

+++++ vibes BRO

I personally recommend : ON3P Caylors or TST's.

I also recommend the use of the "search bar" its you're new best friend.

As Previously mentioned, Don't Do Drugs. But if you do, do lots!

Welcome buddy. Enjoy.

I don't know, I just don't. I'm too lazy to reach aaaaalll the way over to the shift key every 5 seconds haha. I could easily capitalize every sentence and pronoun if I wanted to though. Then I would look educated.

I completely agree. Guess I need a "/joke" or "I was being facetious" at the end of my post so I wouldn't confuse you. I apologize Mr. Bum.

191s too large?

and welcome OP.

Same position as you for this incoming season. Except you made a better entrance than me

I would say the general public has taken the JJ into the one ski quiver realm more than armada really pushing it that way. Obviously it does everything well but its most comfortable in powder. And if you notice most of their team riders use the JJ for pow. I rarely see the ARG in their shoots. But yes wider is more fun if you can afford for those bottomless days.

JESUS I COME BACK TO SKI GABBER FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND FIRST THING I SEE IS THE THREAD ABOUT A GAY PARK SKIER NOW THIS?
