My NHS rant

okay if you're in it...nice. I'm happy for you. you get a gold tassel.

but will someone explain how they let people in to this society? it's based on your GPA but is there also a certain number of C's you can get? I was just discussing it with a few of my friends, because the induction is tonight, and fuck that. quite a few people I know are in it, who have lower GPA's than me, and are in lower level classes. Had I known that taking lower levels would've gotten me better grades, and thus gotten me into NHS, maybe I would've done that.

does NHS matter that much anyway? it's hyped up a lot.

it really doesnt matter. do you want to be the person who follows the trend that gives you absolutelly nothing just to look smarter. colleges dont pay any attention to it at all its just a status thing. and the types of people who are serious about it dont usually end up being the most successful anyways

NHS doesn't mean shit. Colleges don't look at it. I was in it for 3 years, and you don't do shit in it. At least at my school, all we did was help with books at the beginning and end of the year, and a few smaller events during the year that only about 4 people went to.

yea its wack. I didnt get in because i took all ap and honors classes junior year and my avg was like .1 below what it required. so of course my view is biased. Though NHS isn't as good as student council president on transcripts

The requirements also have to do with community service and things of that nature, not just grades. But yeah, it is a joke. I was inducted my Junior year, went to probably 4 meetings and never did any of the projects with them. Its just a status thing, I'm glad I have it, but I wouldn't be pissed if I didn't get it.

colleges will apreciate the AP classes (and so will you once you are in college) more than NHS. The only thing NHS has is volunteer opportunities which you can find and do in plenty of other ways. and the whole induction and lighting of candles and shit it really seems almost cultish to me.

I got into it but never did any of the shit so i got kicked out. Im not sure if it helps u get into good school cuz I only applied to shitty ones. You had to have a above a 3.3, getting in was based on being a leader, community service and somthing else i dont remember.

Does anyone know if you can still get in with a drinking ticket? Cause i have heard that with a minor you cant do it, and if thats true ill be pissed.

I got invited to be a freshman mentor this year, so i got signed up and got my teacher recomendation and wrote the essay and everything, and i was the only one who was invited and not accepted. Im positive it is because of my minor, so im thinking its gunna be the same with NHS.

well, if you really cared about it, you would have cheated more. I am assuming you your not in it so you didnt cheat, meaning you didnt care a whole lot about it, atleast subconsiously. yea for you. NHS is pointless.

requirments are different in every school which in my opinion kinda ruins it. my school you have to have a non-wieghted 3.8 (well maybe its weighted but if its the weighted one than thats low) you have to be approved by all teachers that youve had and have a certain number of activities and 10 hours of community service every year. i was denied origonally because i apparently have "poor morals and ethics" but thats because two of my teachers were sponsers for our ski club and there was a little incident in vermont on one of our trips. but i never got 'convicted' so to say of anything so they had no right to say that. when i called them out they let me in. thats all, its a stupid status thing.

NHS IS BULLSHIT. i hate it. i am able to be in nhs if i want to, but i choose not to because it's all crap. it's a cult really. it really doesn't do anything to help you as long as you have other extracurriculars to make up for it. i have friends in it that have much lower gpa's, classes, and overall grades than i do, and they're in it. it's just stupid, i can't stand it. it's all a scheme, i've heard stories and seen crap within it happen. not enough time to explain it, but trust me.

i was invited to be in it in tenth and eleventh grade and declined. as far as im concerned its a cult full of kids who do community service for no particular reason other than just to have it look good on their college apps. i am smarter than the majority of kids in it.
