My new skis, Inspired by kittens.

This is my newest pair of skis that I just finished up today. I kind of documented the building process via terrible quality cell phone pictures. I’m fairly pleased with how they turned out. The dimensions of the skis are 125-135-133-134-120 and they are 183 cm in length. They have no camber under foot and 25 mm of rocker in the tip and tail. The skis consist of a poplar core, 3 layers of 22 oz fiberglass, carbon stringer in the tail, p-tex bases, sidewalls, and topsheet, a layer of cotton for the graphic, and lots of kittens. I still need to grind the bases and bevel the sidewalls but that's pretty much everything. Sorry for the excellent quality pics and some gaps in the process. Now I just need snow.
 
i thought this was a joke at first because i saw just the two planks haha...
thats crazy how many steps it takes...props thats awesome
 
i'm pretty sure someone made me some clothes with the EXACT same pattern as your bases when i was a very small child haha.

Yay for homebuilding, garages, and the crazy people who decide to build their own skis. Props on some legit topsheets; I know I've seen that fabric in my mom's sewing area before.
 
Really cool to see some pictures of the process. Where did you get the info to start a project like this?http://www.skibuilders.com/? How many hours would you estimate it took, and what was the materials cost? Seems like it'd be a super-fun summer hobby! :)
 
Skibuilders has everything you need to know. It took me probably 5 hours or actual work to make a ski. Materials cost for this pair was about $220.

Three layers of 22 oz triaxial fiber glass were used. One below the core and two above. And a 2" strip of unidirectional carbon was used that runs from the front of the mounting surface to the tail of the ski. As far as the press goes we have a basic pneumatic press. It is just a steel frame, mdf mold, fire hose, and a compressor.
 
when I read the thread title, i thought that it was gong to be a joke but those look like they'll be tons of fun, plus the graphics turned out pretty good too.
 
that is so awesome. how much did the mold and stuff cost to make was that included in the 220? those are some awesome skis though.
