Beacon High School in Watertown, Massachusetts, is a co-educational, therapeutic, alternative high school serving 51 adolescents ages 15–22 from the Greater Boston area. A program of The Walker Home and School, Beacon High has operated since 1971, formerly as New Perspectives School.
Students who attend Beacon High have been referred for a variety of reasons including emotional, social and/or mild learning disabilities manifested by such signs as depression, alcohol and/or drug abuse, impulsiveness, school phobias, and attention problems.
Beacon High’s mission is to provide educational and supportive services in an environment that encourages student growth and responsibility.
Programs at Beacon High School:
Meet the needs of students whose previous educational experiences have been unsuccessful in traditional school settings.
Help students develop a sense of responsibility towards themselves and others.
Help students grow, academically and emotionally, toward a more satisfying and productive future.
