not if put on correctly. its through the loop, let them hang then grab the strap. most people seem to forget that.

i dont wear pole straps in the park not because of the thumb thing, but just because when you fall they tend to beat the shit out of you hahaha. but anywhere but the park you gotta rock the pole straps

No poles will keep you from breaking your thumb, but you will break your wrist instead... you can decide betwrrn your thumb or wrist

If you're so scared of straps take them off from around your wrist until you need them. I used to never use them until I got sick of looking for poles after a crash.

dopeee

and yeah if you have enough brain power to function pole straps wont hurt you. as long as the poles arent too big....lost a tooth in a pole handle from that

your strap idea is sick, especially because they could tear off.

i stomped a five at whistler summer camp in the mashed potatoes ON MY POLE. i was off balanced due to learning corks into a super soft landing, the pole didnt break because the strap pulled me down backward. the force took me down so fast i didnt know what had happened. my buddy came over the landing and i asked if there was something wrong with my back. i had put the tail of a fujative through my back....yup, a huge filet of back skin, deep enough for me to be fingering like a wet one. my buddy freaked out and i had to make it down from the glacier needing 40 stitched. that plane ride home sucked.

take the loop above the pole and put your hand through it oposite the way it seems you should. then put the pole strap so all the slack stays in the palm of your hand.

i always use pole straps and have never had a problem

I've broken two thumbs holding my straps that way... I think that unless you're skiing powder you should stay away from them entirely, but again I've had bad experiences.

1. hang the pole from your wrists.

2. make a "loser L" shape with your hand

3.grab the pole so that the strap trails under your thumb instead of over.

not sure if that made sense or not...

broken thumbs?

skiers thumb is from crashing with the pole in your hand, not letting go of the pole means you will punch the ground with a closed fist and your thumb will break or pop out away from your hand. not letting go has nothing to do with pole straps. the sick thing is that ive done this too....

i tend to just drop my poles so i use straps.

on a side note i find it funny how people on here can 7and arnt scared but they are afraid of pole straps

what am i gonna stab myself with it? i just dont see that happening. but with them on my arm always gets pulled all funny or shit like that. idk, personal preference.

i did that my first attempt too. no worries.

Yeah wow, of course you must have pole straps made from solid steel if they knocked your teeth loose, maybe you should try the nylon ones that come on most poles...
