My new Jiberish hat smells like fish.

Real talk. It smelled like fish when it came and still smells like fish after i wash it. None of my other hats smell at all. Explanations/suggestions?????????

Its the blue/green Best 5 Panel

it seems to happen super randomly. i had an academy that i bought from abstractmall and it smelled so bad like fish. I was reading through comments on some other hoodie and a few other people have also come across it. I wonder what it is

In all my retail experience, I've come across many boxes of merchandise that have a lovely distinct scent of putridness.

Usually what happens is the box ends up getting peed on by rats or something dies in the warehouse or it sits on gross fishy water that happened to splash into a shipping container. Lots of things could happen. And since stuff is stored in a cardboard box that is shipped across the US likely in a hot humid truck bed.. it just causes the scent to get exaggerated.

Put about a cup of white vinegar in a small glass and put your hat on top of the glass for a day. The smell should be gone after a few hours and the vinegar scent should dissipate after an hour or two after you pull the glass. Vinegar makes even the worst of smells vanish. We used to spray stuff with half water/half vinegar when it was really bad.

Probably mold in the warehouse or it got wet during shipping, my hat smelled like that after i wore it in the rain one day. Sprinkle baking soda/powder (I forget which) inside the hat and leave it upside-down in the sun for a day

haha...anyway jiberish has an orgasmic smell. nothing else smells like it. i just bought a 5xl piece and it made my whole room smell like jiberish. i would just email customer service, theyll answer anything and it usually only takes less than a day to respond and u can do exchanges which would probably be the thing to do cause i wouldnt want my hat smelling like fish.

i got pants off of ccs and they had that smelled, came out after a couple washes though. btu maybe you could febreeze the shit out of it

Excuse me? That's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard.

Although it smells like fish, rat piss and dead fish aren't causing this smell.

What happens is, if something on the hat is dyed: the fabric, the logo, etc. they have to let the dye dry, but often times companies will rush this process and package their stuff before it is completely dry.

So all that smell is, is the product of a very impatient worker.

That makes sense, but mine does as well. http://www.satra.co.uk/spotlight/article_view.php?id=325

I don't know where Jibberish is made, but shit that is shipped across the ocean gets the cardboard moldy and according to that, can get the items moldy as well. I recall getting a box of helmets that was absolutely horrendous. We had to remove all of the cardboard from the helmets and sell them without their boxes.

The dye thing makes absolute sense, but cardboard molds super easily and if its because someone spilt their latte or because disgusting sewage water splashed onto some shipping containers, it will likely smell horrible as well. I've encountered products that have smelt themselves, I always attributed it to mold on the boxes because usually once the cardboard was gone, there wasn't a problem.
