My Mountain closes next sunday with 112'' at the base

Is this happening at your mountain? I feel like all that snow is going to go to waste. Would it hurt to call the manager? I do know that a neighboring mountain is offering free skiing throughout spring break but I still think they would be losing business by closing down this coming sunday. Your thoughts?

it's the sad truth you could try and call but they may not get enough business to make it worth it for them because at a ski resort the real money makers are the people who just come and ski but arn't really into it. and once the snow is gone at their house they think that skiing will be done and don't bother coming out but good luck to you.

Last year, Brookvale, the only hill on PEI closed with more snow than it had had for most of the season. A bunch of people just went and hiked up to build a jump, but it would have been better if it just stayed open. I don't think it would hurt at all to call the management, and just see what's up with closing so early.

some hills are on forest service land and are required to close at certain time, regardless of how much snow they have.

people who don't ski a lot have no idea you can ski this late into the year.

living in Texas like I do now, people were shocked to find out I was going back to CO to ski in march. haha.

if my home mountain get enough snow to ski on on any given day thoughout the year they will open the main lift at the very least and let you ski it.

the only reason they close is because all the gapers who make up most of the skiers have other things to do in the spring and forget about skiing. this makes for little buissness and they have to close, they would just be looseing money.

yeah, i know one of the places i ski closes due to insurance reasons, thats why they always have a confirmed closing day

i live in htown montana our local little hill will stay open as long as they have snow(until mid aprilish) but big sky closes april 16 and they could stay open so much longer. but im not sure if they r on forest service. but big mountain closes when they still have snow cause of forest service

Theres lots of reasons to close, Land Usage, Insurance, Pre Bought Electricity Batches. In the end it often comes down to when they stop making money. There is no point having 15 staff, run lifts and other services when 10 people who have already made the most of their season pass want to ski for a few laps. We end our night skiing this week with the best conditions we've seen in years, why, because nobody comes skiing and we are losing money every night we're open. Resorts don't make money off the dedicated (and usually cheap) skiers, they need the influx of weekend warriors with their day passes and caff food.

ya insurance is a big deal. i really dont think the resort i ski at is worried about losing money. they run the gondola in summer for like 50 ppl to ride bikes and have moon light gondola rides and stuff (which would be a sick date). anyways they have closed april 15th for as long as i can remember cuz of insurance

yeah i know that waterville has to close on a certain date (or atleast stop running their lifts) because they will be disrupting the natural wildlife or some shit like that since its spring time

well does your mountain make a lot of money every year? if it doesnt make a lot of money then that may be the reason why theyre closing so early. they probably wont care if you poach and hike it after they close

your resort also probably leases the land to run the lifts on and their lease may run out next week. also insurance can be expiring. there are so many factors. jus go hike it and make the best of it

Employee's is the main reason they wont stay open. All employees are pretty much told an end date for the season before the season actually even begins. So we all have our summer jobs lined up and cant work at the mountain anymore. Also, many employee contracts include an end date so they have to stick to those. Its sucks but thats life.

the single reason is because ski areas lease the land from the national forests and most ski areas are build near migration routes for different animals and because the ski area respects this they close because they are required by laws

yeah i hate that starting next week i will have to start hiking my mountain. The only cool part is they don't care if you set up rails or use the toll road to drive up

you can ask the guys who run the park if you can borrow their rails and set them up where there is snow. you can set up rails in really creative ways, and in my opinion thats sounds like a really cool experience im definitely trying that out a little later on when alpine meadows closes.

Yea that is true about them losing money and our resort is a Non-Profit Organization and is on Forest Land like macmahoon said.

As far as poaching, that thought has crossed my mind more than once, and I have a friend who has a snowmobile and im gonna see if he can hook me up for a ride.

I also know the park managers and Ill see if they can leave up some features and jumps. Would be fun to be up there alone with a jump line up and stuff.

ya my local mountain is closing on the 13th and still has over 515cm of snow.... but im planning on just going up to whistler and sleeping in my car for a couple weeks after my mountain closes :)

All the mountains near me are closing like that also. They told the press the reason to why.....Keystone has to close on the closing date due to them putting in a new gondola..they start the day after they close.

Vail Resorts says that they need a few weeks to switch from Winter sports to Summer sports.

The BIGGEST reason is due to help from other countries, there visa's expire, they will not have enouogh help to run the mountain.......There are two ski areas that do stay open near me though..A-Basin and Loveland, they close like June or something. Maybe may, I dont remember off hand.

ya all the mountians around me are closing this sunday with a sick base but i guess there is no insurence or something after on some mountians or the workers contract ends i dunno its gay

jea im not exactly wen our mountain is gonna call it a winter and shut down but yeah that sucks the same event is happening all over the place you should call the manager adn tell him wats up
