My Moment Experience

I ordered a pair of Moment Reno Jibs at the end of July this past summer after months of reading reviews and basically figuring out what ski I wanted for the upcoming season. Moment caught my eye, I was so stoked on the companies mentality and their products. I joined the Moment Cult where I could talk directly to the people who were actually making my skis. I liked how the guys at Moment were dedicated to their customers and the fact that they took all customer feedback and suggestions seriously.

My skis arrived at the end of September and I couldn't have been happier. They looked sick, felt great, and were extremely light. I finally got them mounted with FKS 155's over Thanksgiving break and skied on them for the first time the following Saturday at Mount Snow. They skied great. I had no problem holding an edge on groomers at high speed and they tore up the crud. They felt good on rails but unfortunatly I wasn't able to hit any nice or big jumps on them because it was still early in the season. They skied great in moguls, it was easy to make quick short turns. The only area that I was displeased with was their performance in powder. I suppose this is to be expected though out of a stiff park ski.

My Moment stoke came to a crashing halt when I was leaving school for winter break. As I was putting my skis into my dads car I noticed that they were broken. The ski was cracked a couple of layers deep near the nose. I could easily have snapped it in half with some effort. Also on my other ski, again near the nose, the edge was splitting apart from the wood core. The split was about 1-2mm wide and 12cm long. I emailed Moment with pictures and they immediately gave me three options for warranty.

My point in making this thread is to make people aware that my skis did break after 6 or 7 days. Moment makes some sick skis but in my experience the lightness of the Reno Jib does affect its durability. I also remeber reading some posts about problems with breakage of earlier models but I figured that the problem had been rectified. Good news is that the 08/09 Reno Jibs are supposed to be more durable.

thats really gay

im also not suprised that they are bad in powder

i saw a pair at sunday river yesterday and the didnt look rockered at all

Oh my god.

You know what's weird? I was bombing down a hill trying to get enough speed to get as far as I can across a flat part back to the chalet at my local hill at around 6pm last night, when I hit a bump, got half a second of air at most, and touched down again, with my weight around my heel binding to keep my tips up (faceplant at this speed = look like michael jackson) when I heard this loud crack in the my right tail. As far as I can see, there is no crack but the tail was definitely softer after that. I didn't go skiing today, but I'll report back tomorrow. I was thinking of just skiing it out, until it breaks, because I cant figure out what is wrong with it (if anything)

What a coincidence.

Yeah, they don't perform great in powder, but I find I need to use a lot of leg power to get it to work.

These aren't the rockered version... these are the Reno Jibs.

any chance someone closed the trunk on your skis??

its extremely strange that you wouldnt notice broken skis on the hill. looks like they couldve possibly been broken off the hill? maybe?

Pretty positive no one closed the trunk on them, I always put my skis in tips foward and they werent really in the trunk for very long. I heard a crack one day when I was skiing so I assume that is when they broke. It was just on a groomer though which is strange.

yeah i know how u feel i broke 2 pairs of moments this season 1 pair lasting one day others lastin like 4 days but there warenntesses are very legit. and i think u might have broken them at the same place i broke mine as the nose is made of plastic and not wood teh place were they are connected is a weak place id thats were i broke them.

yeah i've heard that they are all about customer service which is pretty cool, maybe an option to wait a while and get an 08/09 sample? That would be fucking cool.

Ouch, that sucks. I've never worried about breaking skis before. I flex my fujas really hard, and throw them occasionally. I guess the edges are starting to crack but they're not pulling away yet so it's cool

i have around 10 days on mine and they are dope as fuck, nothin wrong with them. and i skied them in 2-3 feet of untouched powder and they were better than i expected, there also super sick for switch in pow.

Ahaha, no. My 'Ski Shack' icon was pretty ... meaningless? I just wanted something which stood out

I have 30 + days on my Melees and they have had zero problems and they are the most amazing skis I have ever been able to get my hands on. Hands down the best all around skis in my eyes.

I met a guy at Whiteface who had two Renos break. But he still skis them so that must mean something.

My M1's are so sturdy and stiff, but it still sorta worries me hearing these things.

its sick that you made a good thread about them, but then you completely bashed moment by what you said. ok, they broke. skis do break. yeah it shouldn't have happened 6/7 days after skiing. but, a legit company like that definately isn't gonna leave you hanging. maybe you shoulda waited till you heard what they were gonna do about it with warranty before you kinda killed them.

who ever you bought them from go to them and beat the shit out of them then take the broken ski and stab em with it untill they die

I am not bashing Moment at all. And if you read the thread you would have seen that I already talked to Moment about the warranty. I broke my skis three weeks ago and I am just making this thread now so I would hardly call that rushing it. The point of the thread is to let people know before they buy that the Reno Jib has a history of breaking. People should have the information before they buy and you are basically telling me that they shouldn't. So..fuck off..
