My Macbook Crashed!

I'll keep it short. I've loved my Macbook for a year and two months, the hard drive failed on Sunday, I am lazy and so I did not back up my photography and music and now have lost 100 gbs of it.
Does anyone know how I can recover from it? It is still "verified" but cannot be accessed through a firewire tether or by mounting it in an external.
My only other option right now is to drop around 200$ in hopes that geek squad can pull something off.
If you help I will give you karma, if your answer leads to successful recovery I will give you 10 karma and feedback...maybe something more ;)

you have the extended warantee right? applecare. If so take it in and be like bitch today aint yo day, fix my computer, FO FREE!. if you are sol with warantee, well, damn.

i would NOT take it to geek squad. no offense to anyone that works there but the average Best Buy employee has an IQ of like 5.

I would go direct to apple, even if you have to pay more.

I walked into the apple store, sat down in front of the genius bar and said "gimme a new hard drive and recover my data, FO FREE"
so he's getting me the new hard drive, but they couldn't recover the data and told me to go to the geeksquad
so i said "unforgivable..." and got on NS

Yes, I love technology
But not as much as you, you see
But I still love technology
Always and forever

they told you to go to geeksquad?! weak sauce apple!!
i guess its more like apple sauce hahahahhaha!

mine crashed after having it for a month and a half. mind boggling i know.the computer guy at my school somehow rebuilt it and was able to recover all music and photographymaybe try and take it to a tech guy at your school if theyre legit

an apple genius was the one who recommended geeksquad
they are overpriced and normally suck but he referred me to some of his buddies and said they were real good with that stuff so thats why it's an option
moving on...

.....

i have a 1,200$ HP that i got the geeksquad warranty, and so far i have had nothing but problems. all my problems have been fixed, but they kept my computer for about a month over the summer because they couldn't figure out why my wireless card didnt work..

i knowwwww, everyday i would consider it but my external was always full.
to everyone:
if you data isn't backed up, then you might as well not have any

I owned two HPs before finally buying a mac. They just gave me so much shit that I was tired of dealing with them. My macbook, though, has been flawless thus far.

TC- sorry about your troubles, hope you still have some of your photos elsewhere (maybe on ns!)

Post on craigslist saying you will give $50 to who ever can recover your hard drive.
Just make sure you get their qualifications before you invite them over, and tell them no money if they dont recover it.

Same here! After 14 months my Pro crashed. Luckily I had everything backed up.... I'd just bring your computer to a certified Apple tech and see what he can do..
But honestly....these computers have like pre-planned self-destruct settings on them...riiight when the new ones came out..haha (It's ok though.....I'm loving the new Macbook.)

i agree dude, my buddy works for them. he said half the time if they cant guess whats wrong then they wont even bother to fix it. they'll tell you to send it directly to the company lol

happened to me to. so one day all of a sudden it froze. i coulden't shut it off or anything waited for it to die, tryed to turn it on and when i did a little folder thingy came up blinking with a ? mark. shit sucks

Regardless of brand, every hard drive will eventually suffer a physical failure, can't be avoided.

If you aren't backed up by 2 copies of everything, you're playing russian roulette with your data.

If it was a physical failure, the data is still there on the magnetic disk, but it won't spin up or read/write.

There are some companies that recover that sort of thing but it isn't cheap (read: the cost of a new computer), so it depends how important that data is to you.
