I got Volume Six Issue Three of SBC skier for christmas today and I was surprised to see my letter that I sent in with my SASE. It says:

"Thanks

Try to fit a physically impossible amount of stickers in the envelope"

and you bastards only sent me 4. You're using me for free advertising and all you do is send me 4 stickers? Still, it's pretty sick that something I wrote is in SBC skier.

SBC is the only legit ski magazine out there right now. Freeskier is boring and Freeze was a sack of shit. (ya thats right, I went there)

dude, fuck you, freeze was the dope shit. I always enjoyed reading it, i mean fuck, it didnt have New yorker quality writing but was still a great mag.

sweet. if you sent in like 10 bucks they load up your envelope. Then i did it again with another 40 bucks (50 total) and i now have well, ALOT of NS stickers.

I have to say that I am seriously impressed by the quality of the writing in the one SBC Skier I have read. It was on par with Powder, the other ski magazine I consider very well put together.

When I show people how I think a magazine should be put together and feel, I use Powder as my example. It does a good job of covering basically the same material (skiing) from fresh perspectives, has writing that I find enjoyable to read, and I recognise a connection with the soul of skiing that is noticably absent in Freeskiier. Freeskiier goes out of their way to make skiing into a drunken party, which I feel does not represent how I see my skiing. I enjoyed Freeze, but it had the kind of skin deep coverage that is predominant in many magazines today, and I felt it was not original in its premise. With that said, I find the way that Freeze was closed to be ridiculous and a perfect example of massive corporations using skiing instead of feeling it.

haha, I'm 15. And yeah, I have messy writing. And I'm kinda sad because I sent in 5$ and still only got 4 stickers.

I wrote a letter to freeze once telling that I had armada skis and that I support smaller companies rather than big comglomerates like K2 when in reality I did have public enemys at the time, and they pubslished that.
