My last 'which camera' thread.. down to two choices

So i've been researching way too much lately on a lot of cameras, and due to recent money situations, i've narrowed down my choices to 2 options.. both are used but very very cheap.

First is the Canon HV30 (how original? i know right..) well basically i could pick up this little sweety for $600 but it come with... drum roll please... a Velbon Dv7000 fluid head tripod... so that kinda stuck out nicely..

Last is the Canon Vixia HF100. I could get it for $400. doesn't come with much but reviews say it's good and that's all i have to go off of right now.

I've researched them both immensly (so i'm just gonna leave out all the little specs for viewer pleasure).

I'm just an intermediate filmer but i'm looking to get more into it, plus i'm in a couple film classes in school and i'd like a nicer camera.

oh, and another catch. My computer that i'm using right now is... well.. a piece. It's an XP pro from 2002 with 1.25 GB of RAM. I know i'd have to get a firewire port in my computer to upload but i've got the money. I can also spend about another $300 after the purchase of the camera for other items (both camera wise, and computer wise). and i'm editing on sony vegas pro.

so if that's all you need to know,

+k for help!!

Im glad to finally see a which camera thread in which the OG poster is living with in means..

Your not looking at $2500 first cameras.

Im more leaning to the HV 30 as its not avchd. That would probably rape your computer..

Go for the HV30 with the tripod. Not only is the Hv30 an awesome camera, but having a dec. tripod will be very valuable in just about any shooting situation. You definitely will need some more ram, hard drive space, ect to edit tho...

I'd just like to chime in and say that the tripod included with the camera is far from a deal maker. Sure it will work, but it won't be all that smooth and reliable. Don't base your decision off the tripod.

It really comes down to what format you want to record to. If you can stand capturing footage from a tape based camera then just go with the HV30 like everyone else on this site.

well you've opened my eyes.. another thing to think about.

any more input anyone? and any input on other accessories?
