My ipod wont shut off

all right so, this first time i noticed this was on the weekend while i was skiing.

my ipod wont shut off.

whenever i push the play button, it shuts off, but then 2 seconds later, the battery flips on and it says its charging. it's not even plugged in.

i've reset it a couple times, even updated my ipod but it still does it.

worst thing is my apple care expired 12 days ago.

i know none of you are ipod experts (maybe you are) but has anybody else ever had this problem?

How have you reset it? By flipping the hold button back and fourth then holding menu+middle button?

Have you tried using Restore in iTunes?

Are you MAC or peecee? What version of iTunes?

I use mine with my Alpine deck in my truck and the deck will lock the iPod up sometimes but it usually reboots just fine. Occasionally, I do have to let the battery run out tho...

i did that and it still wouldnt turn off.

i might try and take it to the apple store, do they even have those in canada?

Little more info bro... what iPod is it? 30gb, 40gb, nano, etc...

what kind of puter? MAC or peecee?

I ask because computers are what I do for a living, MAC and peecee and I might be able to help if you give me a day or so.

that happened to mine about a week ago, if you have an ipod dock plug it in let it sit there for a couple days.it worked for me.

i have that nano tooo. just plug it in see what happens or try reseting it for a while if you didnt get an answer like that yet ha.

Aaah... first gen nano... I have one of those and they can be a little buggy. That's a pretty old unit, I wonder if the battery is going out on it? Might be. I'm at work but I'll try to do some research on it later. I'll hit you back up tomorrow but I suspect the battery is going out on it.

^^ i've had it docked since yesterday morning, i'll leave it for a bit longer.

and to ^ this one is less then a year old. i broke my other one sometime in april-mayish, so i sent that one back.

There's a lot of weird stuff you can do to get iPods working again. Just search google and try to find some tech forums or just crap like that. One of my old iPods stopped working for like 6 months, but then kept trying these weird things and it finally turned back on.

The fact that it works, except when you press play is kinda weird, but just keep trying crap, and if it doesn't work, well who knows.

i may have read this wrong but your ipod will not turn off, and charges it self? if so then you must have gods ipod.

wouldnt that be sweet if they made something like a cars alternator so if your ipod is on, its charging? im gonna invent that shit

that happened to mine for a bit. and then it stopped. I don't know why. I guess that wasn't very helpful, sorry.

take it to a store anyways, maybe since your apple care expired just a short while ago they might give you a new one, they're mostly chill about stuff like that

like to an apple store? i think theres only one of them in canada.

my friend has a brand new apple care so i think i convinced him to trade it to me for a burton snowboard lock and a little bit of cash.

when my dads and bros do that they always ask me to fix it so i just reset it and keep resetting until it will actually turn of normally.

uh, let me get this straight - you let the battery run out, and it still wouldn't turn off?

or was that after letting the battery run out and then recharging it...grammar is your friend, use it to be clear, and make sure you let the batteries run out completely, in which case the nano will NOT be able to turn back on....just making sure thats clear

yes sorry.

i let it run out of batterys so i couldnt turn it. then i recharged it and when it was recharged it wouldnt shut off.

Thats impossible - if that battery is COMPLETELY FLAT, the device will turn off..leave it for a day or something until it completely dies. Then put it on a charge and reset it

yes sorry for the confusion the battery was completely flat and it did turn off.

and when i recharged it it wouldnt turn off.

yeah no shit, ive had four pods do that, but my moms a nut and gets my shit fixed. lol just have your mom call in to the apple support spewing curse words and free shipping over and over. works every time.

lie, well no, my moms just a crazy bitch so maybe they were afraid for their lives. but i got a new one for free, then it fried, then another one was sent the next day.

that shit happened to my nano. i think it was like the 1st or 2nd gen nano and it happened. they sent me a knew one then that one broke too. finally i got a new 80 gb one and it happened to that one too plus half my screen dissappeared out of the blue so then i sent that back and they sent me anew rebuilt one and then the hold on that one didnt work for the first 2 months that i had it and one day the hold started working and now i'll never buy an ipod again cuz they SUCK. but macbooks are dope.
