My Idea (airlines)

Since we are all skiers, this means we are all sick of getting raped at the aiports paying for baggage. Yet at the same time, as luck would have it, EVERY time I travel alone, I get stuck next to a big fat person. Her stinky, bulbous fupa that is attached to her makes my entire flight painful, and smell like bleu cheese. THEN it creeps underneath the armrest and flows into my seat like a river of lardo, and when I try to mine for my seatbelt that her massive belly has just absorbed, SHE GETS OFFENDED. But I digress...

Anyway, my idea is that they should charge fat people more for extra weight instead of skinny people for travelling with heavy bags. Or maybe both, but then we would still get charged less. Since Amurkah is full of fat fucks, I'm sure the airlines could make bank off it.

Sounds fair to me! I would like to be able to bring just as much weight was a bigger person. But it might not be fair to those people who can't help being fat.

I don't think I've ever met a mentally healthy person who couldn't help being fat. I have no sympathy for fat people. It isn't hard losing weight or staying slim in the first place.

With that being said, I don't bring 300lbs of skis on the plane, so why should I have to pay more to have them suffocate me on the plane?

Im in with that, Every 20 lbs over charge an extra $10. Its there fault there the size they are.

nevermind that, try living in Canada where our tax dollars go towards making sure they live as long as possible, and upgrading our hospitals to accomodate their weight.

Genearlly, the cheapest food available, along with the easiest to buy, (fast food), is some people can afford to eat. Those same people often can't afford healthcare.

what about people that are just 'big'? not fat, but like over 6'2" tall and 230lbs...that's not fat and they still weigh more than 'average'...I agree that some people should pay more, like those that need two seats because they can not fit in one, but the whole idea behind charging for baggage is to combat increasing fuel costs and keep ticket prices reasonable. Airlines are struggling right now (ie no more skybus) and unless something happens to bring oil prices down or we find an economically feasible alternative, its only going to get worse.

they're struggling because now is the chance for the "bigger" companies to knock off all of these small companies who charge considerably less to fly. if the larger companies keep the prices the same and don't raise them as long as possible the small companies will go bankrupt, then we'll see a raise in ticket prices...

I sat next to a big dude on a flight once. He wasn't a blob like some people, but he was probably at least 350 lbs, he had to ask for a seatbelt extension. And he really infringed upon my space and made the flight uncomfortable. But I remeber seeing that they're making fat people buy 2 seats now or something.

even the bigger airlines are struggling...American Airlines just went through a huge layoff period and Northwest is being bought out by Delta (which i guess means Deltas doing alright)...and just because smaller companies are claiming bankruptcy doesnt mean they'll be out of the game. Ever since the deregulation of airlines, and especially since the internet has made price comparison so easy, small no-frills budget airlines have been able to manage quite well. I think it really comes down to oil prices, unfortunatly untill that changes we're gonna keep getting charged more and even more-so the quality of service is going to go down.

Who cares if the ticket prices are reasonable? What you save in ticket prices you get charged for regardless with baggage and other services. $3 drinks? I used to say hell no until they banned liquids through security.

yeah i know what you mean, and they are struggling but not like the smaller companies. i'm just going by what my uncle tells me about this shit, he's the VP of us airways.

ticket prices gotta stay reasonable because when people buy tickets now they just go to cheaptickets/orbitz/kayak/whatever and pick the cheapest one...as long as they aren't reading into all the hidden extras the cheapest flight is always going to win...ps just load up at the duty free after you're through security and drink all you want

word once you get through security just get whatever you want. which is still expensive as fuck, but not as bad as on the plane.

Discrimination? Not that I don't agree with you - its annoying as hell to sit next to "the blob" on an airline - but you can't treat people like cargo. Though you can't kill two birds with one stone (paying extra for luggage and solving your seating issue) I do think you could get away with mandanting that if you can't fit in the seat, you need to buy two coach tickets or a first class seat.

an easy way to get around this discrimination thing is just say that the seats can't handle weight of say over 250 or whatever. That way it's a safety concern and they have to buy a super reinforced seat which is really just a first class seat. No more big people blobbing over into your space. Although one time I sat in front of a guy that had to be atleast 6'6" and I couldn't put my seat down cause his knees were jammed into the back of my seat. Only someone with sculiousis could be comfortable in that posistion.

I have been pretty lucky with air travel. I have got one guy that stole my seat so he could have a window...but then I realized that there was a hot chick beside his seat.

Every dollar increase per barrel of crude oil boosts U.S. airline fuel expenses by an average of $465 million. It's not just competition to knock off smaller competitors.

What has NS come to? I make a thread about fat people and you all start talking about oil prices.

Everyone is raising prices though. Last time I flew which was a few months ago it was considerably more to fly Delta or AA then it was to fly AirTran or JetBlue. While a few small companies have gone out of business, everyone is feeling the pinch. Even if all the small companies do go out of business and you are left with large companies increasing ticket prices, it will be at the point where it will already be so expensive to fly due to rising oil prices that I can't imagine it would have a drastic impact. I think oil is the much larger concern.

You will find airlines will often sell themself if there is any sign of them becoming bankrupt, if this happens large airlines usually buy all shares to that airline and then kill it, this eliminates competition for the larger airlines, this is why British airways became so succesfull.

Oil prices generally affect smaller airlines more though. For one thing, a lot of the majors buy fuel hedges - basically they pay for gas in advance, essentially betting that it will rise over what they pay (and lately, that's a bet the airlines with fuel hedges have won). Also, because they have larger route structures, they can afford to keep fares low - even to the point of losing money - on competitive routes, subsidizing them with profits from less competitive, more profitable routes. If they're not careful, though, that can interpreted as predatory pricing in which case the federal government may step in.

somebody took ec140, sheesh

and alot of airlines are chargin for extra stuffin these days, i think the seat per cheek policy is a good one, but they should be basing it on body mass index really, people who are tall shouldnt have to dish cause its all genetic, and dont give me the "obesity is genetic argument", thats something a bunch a american sociologists dreamed up to comfort their heart attack rampant nation

So, this one time I was on the plane coming back from florida, I was with mv stepdad in the seat and I was playing psp while he was reading skymall cause he loves that shit. about 30 minutes into the flight he taps me on the shoulder. Im like whats up matt? He goes dude, you HAVE to listen to this conversation. So finds out theres this fat man diagnol from us and he's talking about the massive amount of spaghetti he ate to whoever was listening, which was no one but us. And mind you, this guy was HUGE. and smelly. He was going into detail to about everything like how red and sauce was and how many meatballs there was and shit, it was insane! anywho after a while he realizes no ones listening so when the stewarist is going by he grabs he and proceeds to force his epic spaghetti story on her. She cuts him off and goes with faked intrest, "did you have garlic bread to!?" He goes "Oh boy did I!". Me and my stepdad and trying not to shit our pants from laughing so hard

Who can't afford to eat healty? Minimum wage is sufficent, and if that's all you're earning you're elligible for food stamps aswell. And belive me, they are very generous with food stamps.

It's just lazy folks who do the fast food. I could seriously by chicken breast and bread crumbs and make about forty chicken nuggets for the price of ten at mcD's.
