My grandpa got hit by a hummer

he was biking this morning, going across a cross walk and some jack ass in a H2 ran the red and hit him at 30mph. Mind you my grandpa is 84, and just had leg surgery 3 weeks ago and this was the first weekend back on his bike. His leg got super torn up so he had to be rused to the ER to stop stop the bleeding, and the paramedics said he would have died if he want wearing his helmet because he has a really bad concussion now.

I wonder how that driver feels, hitting an old guy biking. Sounds like my dad is gonna have some legal work on his hands coming up

Holy shit

I wish him the best of luck, my 70 yo aunt was hit by a big truck while on her moped, it screwed her up pretty well but after she was able to work through most of it

Hopefully your grandpa does too

he lives in seattle(2 hours away) so I haven't yet, from what he told us on the phone, he'll be fine, no long term damage done.

and yeah, my grandpa is pretty bad ass, here is a shot of him skiing pow in the 60s

my dad got hit this year on his bike too. the ambulance came bandaged him up made sure he was ok and then rode the thirty miles home. He walked in the door and had black eye and rode rash everywhere...
 
God dammit that's why I hate everyone who drives fucking Hummers...this just proves they're all douche bags.

but really, being serious here... hope he's ok. fuck that driver and i hope he fucking dies. i'm not kidding. i really hope he fucking dies for being the biggest pussy and worst driver ever. good luck to him and a full recovery, brotha. i know that sounds harsh but for all those pussies out there, i hope he gets life in prison at least. people like that don't deserve to be out among regular folk... ever.
 
Depends. In California, on a non-highway road, bikers have the same legal right as cars do to use left turn lanes and all that jazz. They just have to follow the rules of the road, but they ALWAYS have the right of way. ALWAYS. (unless there are pedestrians, who have the right of way then. but in the case of bike+car, it's always the bike)

Anyway, that sucks man. It sounds like your grandpa is an awesome dude, skiing in the sixties? and photos to prove it? Awesome awesome awesome. I hope he gets better, and well enough to hop back up on the bike. Just tell him not to try hitting the H2 back, it'll almost inevitably ruin his Karma. Revenge does that.
 
just sayin cause bikers have to walk their bikes accross the road legally... but i never do that. it really is a silly law bu i wish for more info. on this because some other friend posted about his cousin being taken away for a XC ride they were doin for cancer because of a drifting driver.... really hits home in more ways then one.

my mates grandpa fell off a 4 story building while cleaning the gutters at their beach house and only broke 2 ribs, my mate even saw him fall past the fucking window, scary shit.

some kid in my grade got hit by a 17 year old driver, while the driver was texting and going 70 m.p.h on a dirt road.. needless to say the poor kid did not make the hit. that sucks for your grandpa thou.
 
++ mad vibes, hopefully he'll recover and you'll sue that driver's ass off.when i clicked on the thread it thought it said 'my grandpa got hit by a hammer' which was somehow in reference to 'bang me like a hammer'. that said, i'm still glad i clicked haha.
 
a large percentage of people who drive hummers and shit are fuckin retarded. glad to hear your grandpa's alright, he sounds like a fuckin hero
 
yeah, not to be an asshole or anything, if he was riding his bike across the crosswalk and not walking it he was doing something illegal. my buddy was in a similar situation where he was making a left hand turn and the guy rode hise bike out infront of him on the cross walk. to make matters worse it was evening and he was turning northwest so the sun was in his eyes. needless to say he hit the guy on the bike, thank god no one was hurt but the cops at the scene told him to fight it because the guy was doing an illegal act and therefore my buddy would most likely get the charges dropped. still dont know whats gonna happen cause the court date is in september.

on another note i hope your grandfather feels better and yeah if the hummer ran a red and hit your gramps i hope they get everything they deserve.
 
not true. in some states/towns riding across cross walks is legal, I know in boulder it is as well as my home town for sure
 
in ontario its illegal to bike on the sidewalk... you gotta be on the street and cops do give out tickets its fucking retarted
 
i know this guy is a grandpa, so this probably doesnt relate to him. but a majority of the bike and car incidents around here are the bikers fault. i know 4 kids who have been hit by or hit cars and every one was their fault, two because they were on fixies and couldnt stop. i heard of one kid who had a fixie rider try to hitch off of his car, so he swerved really hard, and the guy ate shit at like 25mph. kinda harsh, but knowing it was a hipster douche bag makes it all better. though im not sure if its true for sure.
