My goodness, will someone buy me a pair of...

Truth...I'm not trying to be a downer, it's more that I just don't understand why one "cause" received so much of a greater response than the other when one "cause" seemed a lot more pressing than the other.

Again, not trying to be a hater...but I also don't understand exactly why you let yourself become a charity per say. Usually people donate funds on here to individuals who have medical bills and what not to pay for...not people who are trying to get new skis. I mean there's a lot of broke people on here and we'd all like new skis. It's great that you've both got a family and are trying to ski. That's definitely commendable no doubt, props. But I don't see why it's grounds to make a charity out of yourself.

To each his own, but personally I wouldn't have been comfortable with people I don't know "donating" money to me over the internet. And to be honest, I do think you should have donated the money people gave you to Pekka instead of buying the skis.

People just got caught up in the idea. I initiated it, because I didn't see the harm in helping someone out. I've donated the Pekka as well. I really do wish more would donate to Pekka.

^ Yeah, I am in no way trying to hate on what happened here, and I apologize if I came across that way. I am just trying to express my lack of understanding of the disparity between the situations, as it doesn't exactly make sense to me.

If anyone deserves dough to buy new skis it's Triple_Strum. IMO the most generous newschooler I know

look man, i feel where youre coming from, but the reality is, with 3 posts on this page scolding someone for "turning themselves into a charity," it's hard to say youre not being a downer.

there's no need to attack one positive thing because another positive thing hasnt gotten the attention it deserves. i agree that it's a crying shame that pekka's thread hasnt gotten so many views, but there are a lot of factors in that. one is happenstance-- this thread is one a lot of people have happened to click on for various reasons. another is that while this was a relatively low amount of money for a goal, get to 400 bucks or something and done, on pekka's site there isnt even a mention of what donations go to, how much he's made, how much he needs, etc etc etc. this isnt hate on him or whoever made the site AT ALL, but it's true.

so instead of picking your bone in this thread, why not do something constructive to try to get attention to pekka's cause? spread MUCH more information about the donations and what they can help do, make another thread, hell, ask the site admins to make a page about it that you have to see before logging in. get the exposure and awareness way up. i'd be happy to help if there's anything i can do

While I know that you have good intentions, it would be entirely wrong for him to receive donations for one cause and then end up using the money for another without the consent of the donators. The donators chose to send him the funds with the knowledge that their money would be used for buying a pair of skis. There's nothing wrong with that, and it's actually pretty awesome.

Do I think that helping a skier rehabilitate from a life-threatening injury is a more important cause? Yeah.

But arguing about which cause is more important is pointless. It's great to see anybody donating to a good cause, and let's not belittle them for choosing the "wrong" one. I like to give out candy on Halloween to kids who stop by... does that make me a bad person for not donating to the food shelf instead?

I accidentally deleted this thread watch whitout knowing it, and thought it died. i can't believe that they actually offered up a prodeal, and triple strum got his bacons, SOOOOOOOOO AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

There is nothing worth arguing over here, but I do want to point out a couple of things.

1) I want to be really clear that I never set out to "make a charity" of myself. I posted that in Gear Talk because I had just read about the new Bacons and thought they were sweet. It was late in the evening and I was just posting about how cool they were. I never once thought "If I feign really wanting a pair but just post about how cool they are I bet people will give me money!"

2) You really shouldn't judge. You shouldn't, in any way, be presumptious about what I do with my money. I never talk about it because the purpose of giving is to bless the recipient, not to puff up the giver. But, I do want to give a couple of examples.

1) Last year I saved up all year, putting aside a little money here and there to upgrade my skis. I ended up with a few hundred bucks, plus the skis I had at the time, which were worth about $200. Then, a super nice rep for Orage/Line was selling a pair of Prophet 100s with a limited top sheet - and he gave me a sick deal to boot. I even had a mismatching pair of black and white STH 16s I couldn't wait to mount on them. At that time someone I knew was going through some financial hardship - he two months behind on his mortgage and even had his water shut off at one point. He is a hard working guy with a wife and three kids but had some unfortunate stuff happen. I knew it was the right thing to do, so I sold both the Prophet 100s and bindings, bought a pair of skis and bindings for $250, and gave him the difference.

2) A couple of months ago I worked with a guy who had three kids and had recently taken in two foster kids who were in a really bad situation (their father left them in a burning house. he is now in prison for 15 years). Though the family didn't really have the means to do it, they took the kids anyway. They live in a very small home, and there were three kids sleeping in the same room. They needed more space. I not only helped him build a bedroom in the basement, but paid for all the materials myself, to the tune of a few hundred dollars.

Could I find money to buy myself a brand new pair of skis? Perhaps. But, I don't have it for a reason. I don't buy new gear, I find it used during the summer. AND, I usually then turn around and sell it for a good price on NS to help out other skiers.

So, I hope you are able to support your cause without detracting from a really, really nice thing a bunch of people did for one guy by helping him get a pair of ridiculously awesome skis. As you can see, I don't just take money and throw it down the toilet, so the fact that people hooked me up with this was like a Christmas present I'd never get or buy for myself. I am still shocked at how generous and encouraging people were in getting me these.

I'm sure you're a great guy and you deserve the skis, and I'm not trying to attack or hate on what happened. I'm just posting my opinion of what the situation looked like to me (someone who only saw the thread online and doesn't know you personally). I

I love seeing these random acts of kindness come to fruition! Have fun Triple, you definitely deserve these.

Hey_dude, this guy has probably donated more of his time and/or money than you. God forbid your student loans run out and daddy takes his credit card back from you, brah. Triple_Strum earns his money like the rest of us adults.

Anywho, I just wanted to say I really love skiing. I'm glad NS has a big heart. This is awesome.

hahaha yea mannnnnn. you guys can have fun jerking each other off while you cry about how difficult it is to make it as a white guy in America.

I'm only on mobile internet and have no pay-pal. Is there a feasible way of donating a few bucks to Pekka in my situation? Plus this thread made me stoked to the highest level. +k and mad vibes to all the cats who helped him out, and also to Line for being so cool.

This is sick. Nice work people...

And for its next trick, Newschoolers buys Brian Coles a piano.

Illest thread / event ever on NS, i think.

Post some pics man! would've donated for sure but its closed, and im 15..

Good luck with ur son, and ski real soon!

This is brilliant. Respect to everyone who contributed and line. I thought NS was going downhill, but this thread has just changed my mind.

he got the skis, he doesn't give a shit anymore.... "bu bu but I'm busy with my new born" have a great season!

hahaha wow thats paethetic, Im starting to realize I definitely don't fit in with the people on this site but at the same time I feel like most of the general population would agree that this thread is a joke so idk what to think, maybe its age idk

You can try to find negative things everywhere in life, I guess. I truly do hope you find joy, someday.

As a p.s. to everyone else: most people I know who are KU grads and fans are actually enjoyable people to be around.

IMO I think Pekka isn't getting as many views/ donations because the thread is asking for Donations, when Triple_Strum never even asked to donate to him for his skis. He just has more loving fan's then Pekka and they really like him. So IMO Triple_Strum deserves the $$$ which he is getting from donations. He hasn't been selfish at all, all of the thread repliers who talk bad that this is all BS are the selfish ones who are either jealous, or are jealous that some other skier doesnt get $$$.

Yes i would love to donate to either one, but I'm only in Highschool and I need my money.

Full Respect goes to Triple_Strum, Congratulations on the Newborn baby (not really anymore) and Congratulations on you're new Bacons!
