My good deed for this lifetime...

so lately I've had a lot of motivation to get out and do stuff (get in shap, do well in school, give back to the community, etc.). So tonight I was out for a job and came up with an idea for a way to really give back to the community. I don't know if any of you have heard of the Janeway but its a children's hospital here. They do fundraisers like telethons and stuff but i was thinking of another way to raise money for them. I was thinking about doing a 24hour run around our campus (our campus has a 2km perimiter boardered by 4 main roads. I could run around that for 24 hours straight which i figure would be good for about 200km. I would be hoping to get some local corporate sponsors as well as larger companies to sponsor it. So for example Nike and i could wear all nike products. Also a drink sponsor, sunglasses, etc. May be potential for some big money sponsors. obviously it would be good to get as much media coverage as possible. Does anyone know how to go about getting corporate sponsors for this type of fundraiser? Any input wold be good. This would also be a great opportunity for me for a couple reasons, to push myself and actually do a 24 hour run, secondly it would look great to organize and carry out such an event as a marketing major.

you'd think this would even me up for butchering that family though wouldn't you??

Dude.... there is no way you can do a 24 hour run. No way. Go for a 12 hour run. And practice up for it... Make sure you can do it... espicaly if its for fundraising... Otherwise.. Make it a lotery. 50/50 and have people plave 20 dollar bets on when your going to pass out / vomit / give up / have muscell cramps... You could have multiple prizes. Or better yet... get people to pledge x amount of money for ever KM or lap you run.

If you do try to do a 24 hour run. Makre sure you have people backing you up with food and water and stuff...

im a marketing major. do what he said, pledge "x" amount of money for every mile/kilometer or even lap that you complete.

you are a crazy fool if you think you can run for 24 hours- have you ever seen marathons- they are like dead after 2-4 hours...

ya the pledge x amount of dollars for every km is better because running for 24hours is a alot of running man trust like 4 hours is hard my mom uns marathons and shit and she says running like 42k is a bitch

Im gonna agree with Apple fully on this one, a 24hour run straight is outrageous, you should think of another creative way to keep moving for 24 hours without burning yourself completely out. Up here I remember something about how students got a big ass bike for 20 people and did a marathon raising money for autism. Keep it fun though, take some super soakers with ya.

you could do it for 24 hours if you had a buddy to alternate with for every lap completed. doing it by yourself sounds pretty intense, and for something like this you would have to put in some pretty intense training for a couple months.

Ya a bunch of kids from my school are riding are bikes to Niagara Falls which is 120km...not that bad. But we have been only training for it for 4weeks and we have already raised 2000.00 dollars. i am pretty happy

You could do it.. he doesn't have to sprint for 24 hours straight.. he could walk.. jog.. go slow, etc.. he just has to keep moving. Do it bro..

get a team of like 4 people to run for 24 hours in shifts. then get like 10 teams, and have them all raise $$$

Honestly, I don't think 24 hours would be a problem. Obviously gonna need volunteers to hand out drinks and food and stuff. and I don't think it will be too had to maintain an average of about 8km/h. I would give myself about 2 months to train. Pledges are good but if I could get some big corporate donations that would be amazing. Or set a goal for like $1000 for each km I run.

yeah but they're also running 26 consecutive 5 minute miles. i'd be dead after one 5 minute mile.

it can be done, you just need two things: the right mindset and proper pacing.

i dont know if you have heard of teh relay for life, they have it at a buch of schoold in canada. but baisically you have teams which get pledges and they take shifts running/walking around a track from 8 pm one night to 8 am teh next morning... or it could be morning to morning, cant remember. but baisically its a huge thing with live bands and a god time. they raise alot of money for cancer.

there is no way you can run 24 hours straight....my roommates just completed a 6 hour race...how far they can go in 6 hours...they have been runners their whole lives...my roommate won it, running 43.6 miles....avg. 8:16 pace for 6 hours...but, he did a lot of walking...and he was also dropping some 7min pace in there.

what is your running background? i could possibly see you running for 30 minutes, walking for 30 minutes for a good amount of time...i would respect that a ton.

he ran for 7 hours, not 72... but yea, my team was trying to organize a 24 hour relay last spring, never happened tho... 24 hours by yourself would b pretty tough, mentally and physically

obviously it would be a flat out run. light jog at a comfortable pace , plus slower and faster periods. i honestly think i can get 200km though

200k in 24 hours is 11:35 pace per mile...every K has to be in 7:12... hat is your running backround? (age, how often do you run?, weight?)

I am an avid runner...i know some background stuff for ultra-marathoning...i know that 300 miles at one time has been done. I also know that running across the nation has been done ( world record is something like 67miles a day avg.) why are you setting your goal at 200k? make it a little more realistic if you've never ran before and only plan on running 2 months prior.

why not run 100k? it is still badass...run in running shoes, not those shitty nike running ones...get something that will give you arch support. lemme know how your training is going...run with people on your school's cross/track team if they're cool. it's better to run with a partner on these training runs. you should start off easy your first week and build yourself up. you don't want to get injured.

dont worry about the kids with negative opinions, kids that do stuff like what you're doing are the ones that go places in life. I would send letters, or call the companies and tell them what you're doing and say what you're looking for from them, talk to the correct department of the company, and deffinently make sure that you can do the whole 24 hours, that would be my best advice, good luck.

i like his idea of running X amount of times for every X amount of dollars, it could be 10 bucks a lap or something of the sort

i like it, very admirable. if you had a big thing to try to recruit people, the media would probably get wind of it.

my school just had something like that happen not too long ago. it's called Relay for Life and it was for cancer victims/survivors/etc. anyways what they did was it was like and 18-hour thing. started at like 6 in the evening and went until noon the next day. they had teams of 4 and you had to get sponsors/donators and you had to have at least one person from each team walking around this specific pathway. they had tents in case anyone who wasnt walking wanted to rest for a little. it was an awesome idea and raised A LOT of money.

dude you said just recently you decided to be a good citizen and "get in shape"...bro a 24 hour run is something I would assume you would to train for years to accomplish. sounds to me like your just an average joe...and if you failed the 24 hr stated goal, especially if you failed after like 2 hours, you would be deemed an idiot.

you have to be a natural runner with execptional stamina and cardio vascular control to pull that kind of thing off man. I once walked 36 miles in ten hours, and if you ask anyone who hikes that is quick. after I was dead, expect your shins to start to hurt and even bleed. even if your hydrated and fed the whole time your body and heart can only take that kind of beating for so long. I would deff cut it down. try walking 44 miles in 24 hours str8, a nice and slow 2 hr/mile pace. i bet you cannot do it.

heres how training is going so far 2 laps 2 days ago (5km), 4 last night (10km), 5 tonight (12.5) and working my way up. honestly I am thinking it may be better to do a 24h powerwalk though. jogging is something feirce on your body, and I can powerwalk pretty fast. Running background = none. With that in mind I am an avid biker, play numerous sports and am in pretty good shape 5'10 155 lbs. The other option is having the run but doing it relay style like you guys were saying. I I did that i would probably make it 48 hours though depending on how many relayers
