My friend almost died at crystal yesterday

we were out at our spot by lake E, and we were all hittin the jump. we were all going no poles to practice our stuff, but before he went, for some reason he asked to borrow someones for his jump. So he hits the jump (with poles) and tries a 7. he lands weird and the pole tip stabs him in the throat! he starts gushing blood when ever he breaths. it seriously punctured a hole in his neck. luckily a ski patrol was passing by and brought him down to the medical station. they gave him a tracheotomy right there. it was too foggy to get a helicopter in there so they had to rush him down in an ambulance and helicopter him out from the nearest town. hes back home now, but he has to get plastic surgery to fix his neck. pretty harsh

wow that must have been grusome. how does that happen, he must have let his pole go and it would have to do half a flip and stab him, quite unlucky.

My uncle did something like this a year ago, almost. He was skiing moguls (not very well) and the pole flipped and stabbed him in the leg.

so was it like what dadali did but the pole was the other way around and on his neck and +++++++vibes to your friend

holy shittt

thats fucking crazy, so unlikley, dont even try to make this into a reason to not use poles, thats just an absurd chance and your fiend got way unlcuky. Hope he recovers fast, thats fucking nutss

That sucks. Hopefully your friend is ok.

However, lake E is really never big enough to throw good smooth 7s on and I suggest you find other places in the future.

Crystal needs to get its shit straight and let kids build jumps in safer areas that may be seen by patrol or build a park. People are building in sketchy places now, and especially with the avy danger. Lame, eh?

To add on, Crystal has no park. It's mostly backcountry, actually. Most of the good places/lines are relatively steep, even for the west coast. It's actually quite helpful to have poles while skiing the mountain.

Dude must've had some seriously bad karma. Best of luck to ya bro. Get better and get back out there.

that really blows man, i'm sorry to hear that. I know a guy who was biking and came up short on a gap with his handlebars crooked and his handle bar punctured his lung.

that's crazy, hope your buddy is alright man.

one of my earliest ski memories was riding the lift, and watching this kid hit a jump on the side of the slope underneath my chair, when all of a sudden he fell and the tip of his pole went straight into his eye. there was blood gushing out, etc. he probably lost his eye, i will never forget it...

shit that sucks for your friend man, good thing he's alright.

yesterday i almost broke my sternum doing that same shit off of a rail, luckily it went a little under the bone and didn't break any ribs or anything, it left a nasty buise though

That really sucks, hes lucky to be alive.

However, at the risk of sounding like a heartless douchebag...

That is why you don't ski park with poles.

Woah, scary stuff, good vibes to him and I hope he gets well.

On a side note, this is one of the reasons why I like jumping without poles.

oh my god that is just terrible, that is seriously like my worst nightmare getting stabbed by a damn pole I wish him a speedy recovery through this
