My Final Word(Park vs. Big Mtn.)

Alright, i'm honestly tired of seeing the threads on it, this is my opinion, and dont care what you call me, i just think we need to put it in our pasts and ride, so i'd highly respect if you would read what i have to say...

Park skiing- Although it wouldnt seem like it is alot more mental, atleast to me, people that can solve problems, are people i see skiing in the park. Being able to time, your take off, set your speed, landing and body positioning all at the same time, is way to much for me to analyze and takes me a really long time to learn a trick.

Big Mtn Skiing- Seems to be people, while fearless, are still scared, but live to be on the edge, and really get there adrenaline going...more type a people, while relaxed, they exert a higher amount OF STRENTH and ESTROGEN into what they do.

so really i see it that you need both Strength and mind, so neither one is harder than the other, they both take equal determination, and ability

I think both aspects take a completely different style of person, and a different ability of each...in my case i love to ski park, and would love to be better, but honestly just dont have the aspiration to fall on hard ice pack trying to prove i can do something to all the local gangsters, and i can honestly say that even tho i try to keep it from that, some days thats just wat some people make it come down to...i enjoy going out there, dropping a few cliffs trying random spins here and there into soft snow...thats fun for me, and i think alot of pro skiers try way to hard to make it in both, which i have mad respect for, but i think i can deffinately see a different style and aspect of a skier in where they may or may not belong, understanding of course they need to make a living wherever they are skiing....

In and of itself i see it as skiing vs. snowboarding... two different worlds, and most of us relate better to one than the other...as for the east coast kids, they have park, thats what they are good at and dominate at, they spend there life in the park, and have MAD talent in the park and bring it out west to perfect it, while some of us westerners have a better high alpine/big mtn/steep/glade/chute whatever you want to refer to, but a better skiing abuility in that terrain and enviorment, and honestly i think you should ski where you want, and not weigh talent, which is harder, which is easier, because they are two things that make our sport great and we each have our way of expressing ourselves out there, so i think we need to quit arguing over which is harder and just carry on with what we do, and where we ride...no matter which we think is the easier one.

sorry bout that, i'm talking to someone about health and psychology got it mixed up, you all know what i mean

99% of people on this site that claim that they ski bigmountain.. dont ski anything even close to it, i bet most that do barely ski real backcountry. im sorry its true..... NO MORE sayin i ski 30%park 70% bigmountain.... do you really spent that much time in a heli or on a sled... didnt think so

i'm not going to define what big mtn riding is i'm mearly making a comparison, that both take skill, and i see it as equal

thanks brotha.

Please clear this up right now. If mods wanna sticky this that's cool it would end the debate right here and now.

clear up what? its ok to have an opinion and voice it on this site. thats what can make it more enjoyable as long as people actually think before they respond. i think some of these debates are quite humorous.

you cant clear this up though just because everybody feels differently on this subject. me personally, i will ski the park all day every day, because that is all we have in minnesota. if you have better terrain elsewhere good for you, tear that shit up man, but if you have that terrain and still want to kill the insane parks you have out west, then keep killing it. this sport is about fun and people need to remember that. all this stupid shit about you have no skill if you ski park and everything is just ridiculous. if you have fun in the park and dont care about your form on groomers, be a park rat and fuck everyone else who talks down on you for doing what you like. it seems like a lot of people are forgetting why we all are into the newschool scene, and at least to me, its just being yourself with some friends and having fun skiing.

^^where in there or in here has anyone put one of them on a pedostal? the idea behind it is i'm saying i think both require a very similar amount of skill and are both way fun to do...

if you would've read my last paragraph you basically just repeated what i said

not to mention, your the one bringing in the arguments people use when no one has talked down on park skiing, or even mentioned anything either way, the point your missing, is that who cares which is harder, they're both fun, and both take skill, and anyone should get props for being out there and having fun

im wasnt referring to your post, just what royale said about clearing up the whole park vs big mtn thing and all of these types of posts in general, not your post at all. i agree with pretty much everything you said. i just dont think that you can clear up something that is so opinionated

understood...well sadly enough i dont think it should have to be an opinion, but in a world we live in and the sport we choose to love make it so that you have to form one...there are always 2 sides to everything, kinda sad when you have to think of skiing like polotics

you dont have to think of it like politics at all. everyone like something different thats all. you may not like to ski park or you may not like to ski out of the park, but just respect the people that do, stop hating

I ski the backcountry as much as possible weather it is hikeing teton pass or on the snowcat at monarch. When im not trying to do that i am in the park or trying to make a difficult run in-bounds. the people with the most hart can do both. that is just my opion though i respect people that can only do one of the two.

yea, thats true. but i can honestly say that i ski about 30% big mtn, and no its not in a heli, or on a sled, its hiking. long fucking hikes to get to the steep and deep. it takes me over an hour and a half to get to the good stuff. so befor you know all the facts dont judge

kiss my ass, when i hike to ski big mtn and pow its not cause im hiding from the park, its cause i like to ski that stuff to. by your statment im gona assume your either a prk rat or a kid who skis groomers all day. clearly you a 12 year old who has no experience with the ski world and know nothing at all. i bet you the kid who gets his daddy to buy him all new ski stuff and gos to chill in the park but cant throw down at all.

about the fact that your a poser or the fact that your a park rat who has never skied any actuall big mountian in you life

this will have no meaning to most of the guys on here...simply because lot of them ride both and are not biased because the enojoyment of both is all they want...and it doesnt really matter where u r from, anyone can havebig mountain or park skillz regardless

ayy dawg ayyy, you still down to murk some medal main^ forsho... ok i left out hiking... but, i go hike, i ski baker's bc and the rest of washingtons legit shit, but i dont claim that i can ski big mountain, cause there is a reallly big difference, i have sledded out to some raw shit, but its not the same, big mountain is thousand+ feet faces.

evan just spoke the truth, people that really make an effort to say they are bigmountain skiers or powder skiers are scared of park

if im wrong i can deal with that, but i know tons of skiers who ski just as much big mountian as they do park and it has nothing to do with them being afraid of the park runs. perhaps i went a little over the line, sorry boys. im a little edgy, i got like 2 hours of sleep last night and thats only cause i passed out studying. again by bad

i was hopin someone would say it, i ski, and skiing well includes, park ,bc, bumps, metal and cemment. i think the posers are the people who try to get really good at one thing cuz they saw it in a magazine, i havec been skiin since i could and will try to get good at all aspects

and u can lick my nutssack, you can talk behind your computer and attempt to call me out. but if u wanna take the time of day to see me ski . i will stomp on your face in every single part of it.

yo man that deserves some props, and my bad about all the shit i sayed. right now im running off red bull and coffe and im more than edgey. i mean i just hit a kid for bumping into me.

im not sure how people can even compare the two

they are so different from each other and eack takes a radically different mentality so its retarded to try to compare them

its impossible

as i said above, they both take skill, but i love how people can still find a way to fight about it, this really proves to me how lame and shallow skiers are becoming...one minute they'll say oh its skiiing its all about fun, the next second they're ready to pull a gun on the other person...i think i may very well be done with this site

with me it's rather easy, i love to ski powder but here in belgium we only have these indoor places and there you can ski a bit park so that's why i ski park but whenever i can i go up the mountain...

I don't think park skiing is anyway more mental than big mtn. Big mtn may be even more mental. I know some almost retarted kids who stomp everything but couldn't get above a c in school if there life depended on it.

Okay I am going to throw my two cents into this debate... I as many who grew up in the mountians skiing had little if no care in the world about throwing mad tricks in the park. To tell you the truth I think that most people on this site only ski park and to some extent that is all there mountian offers other than racing. But for some people to bitch and complain about the other sides of the sport is assinine (retarted for those who are retarted on this website, which I believe is more than less) Skiing is skiing no more and no less. Somebody might get there jolies from hucking a huge cliff while others get it from blazing thru gates or some redonculas trick with some wicked steeze. But some people think that everyone should be like them when the truth is not everyone is like you. Find what makes you happy and stick with it, let people be. I have dabbled in all aspects of this great sport (racing and moguls included) and found my niche and I am happy with how I am skiing and were I am doing it at. But to some rat kid from the east coast who thinks that park is true skiing and the same to some one who thinks that big mountian is only skiing I have this to say Though you may have a point you side is only your own and will always be your own. One man isn't going to change the world with out pissing somebody off. Its just the way life works itself out. Much of this I put together becasue it is the first time that I have been around kids who had only skiied park thier entire lives and kid who had only skiied deep powder. So to everyone out there let this entire debate go just get out there ski and have fun.

word up...i didnt read any replies...but as far as doing it all goes. why not do everything? if you are being paid to ski, then diversity can only be a good thing. the whole 'image' deal, to me, seem unrealistic.

like i said if your good at both props and get out there and rip it up wherever...the idea i'm really trying to get across is who cares what you do, quit the whining arguing, each is different go out and do what you do having the most fun with

man if you had read my previous post i apologized, i sayed i was a little stressed and just kinda snapped. chill out and read the posts befor you flip like i did

Im going to be truthful here. Ive never skied big moutain ever, and come to think of it Ive never even seen big moutain in real life. And I probally never will. I didnt choose to ski just to do park. I was fucking afraid of it. I mean hell I would love to ski big moutain, but unfortunatly out of all the moutains in the Catskills they picked the smallest one. Point is or some people park is basiclly all that they have.
