SO my dad got a check in the mail for 4450$ which was to cover his taxes for him supposidly winning the lottery about 1 year ago they supposedly new it was him bc he bought the winning ticket with his credit card, he supposidly won $250,000 the company was TelCo Inc. and it gave a number for an agent and everything, my dad called the police station to ask if there were any scams going aruond and they said no, so do you think its a scam or not?

as long as you dont have to pay anything dont wory... also if its criminals hiding money, your bank insurance covers that.... id be stoked!

They didnt ask for anything they just gave us a check but when i googled the company name nothing came up

Easiest way to find out if it's legit, go to a bank and have them check it for you. Also, follow up with the police, possible the fbi. The fbi is always more helpful though.

your dad got a check in the mail for 4grand for maybe winning the lottery so you came on ns to ask if its legit? hahah thats funny, and ill feel hella bad for you if its fake, but i doubt anyones gonna know. keep us posted tho. oh and where do you live?

he said he would give me a G for ski gear this year but he told me not to get my hopes up

Maybe he can use that money to send you too a school that teaches you to spell.

Anyways if it does turn out to be legit then congrats man, always nice to see when life gives someone a good hand~

Hey, I can check if it's legit for you. All I need to know is your credit card number, name on the card, expiration, and the three digit card security number.

There are fake checks. When you deposit the money, it goes into your bank account. but once the bank figures out that its fake and it bounces, they will take the money out of your account. These are used in scams, mostly on craiglist and ebay, where they mail you a check, tell you they sent the wrong amount and ask for more money back, or say that a friend sent the money and you need to send some back to him.

Sometimes the victims can end up going to prison cause of this, even theough they had no idea of the scam.

If no one claims a lottery ticket, the company is not going to out of its way to find the winner. they dont want people to win...(at least in this case...theres no publicity to encourage others to buy lottery tickets here.)

Thats wicked news! I got my own bit of good luck last week. I was contacted by the prince of sudan, and he's getting chased out of his country and needs a way to get his fortune out. Anyways I emailed him my bank info so that he could deposit $25,000,000 and I get to keep half! So pumped right now.

Why would a lottery company want to cover the tax on your lottery winnings? That just seems... dumb. I can't really speak to it as we don't tax gambling winnings up here.

I think before making an account on NS, people need to pass a basic spelling and vocabulary test.

One?

Really?

come on man

The amount your dad received for taxes is only 1.78% of the winnings. Tax on gambling or lottery winnings are WAY more than that. Unless he's receiving the tax reimbursement in payments, it doesn't make sense at all. Even besides that, they don't normally cover your taxes.

So this won time I bought a scratch off, and one $50. A man standing near buy, told me that he wanted to bye it off me. He said that he had been playing it four 6 years, and had never one. He wanted to prove two his wife that he could win. So I said sure, and he gave me a $50. Turns out I read it wrong, and the guy one ended up with $100. I got screwed.
