My buddy paid $150 for a mount, did he get ripped off?

I've always mounted my own but I was gonna have a shop do it this time so I asked him how much our local shop charges and he said he paid $150??? How much have you guys been paying because I thought it was usually around $50 to $60??

Yeah he got ripped off. Every shop ive been to charges $50-75, and if you bought boots or skis there then they usually either give you half off or a free mount if you are a regular and they know you.

Unless it was a weird AT, CAST, or Tele mount but even then they should be up front about it

The most I payed was 74cad I think for a vip mount I guess? basically they mounted them live on the spot instead of waiting a few days

That like actually can’t be real. That’s like actually that craziest thing I’ve seen on this site in a while

Unless it's something complex like double pattern quiver killer inserts. Def got ripped off

still a scam $75? i pay like 30

Not when there is only 1 single shop. $75 is a deal. Granted that’s if you’ve bought nothing from them. Goes down to free if you got everything from them.

I haven’t paid for a mount in a while but it doesn’t surprise me to see mounts going for over $100. I used to get upset about pricey mounts, but it is a skilled service (and hopefully they are testing the bindings after as well).

Yeah, $150 seems like a ripoff until you consider that he probably didn't buy the equipment from that shop and the shop has to pay for skilled employees and some kind of indemnification in case he gets hurt on poorly mounted skis. It's an expensive sport but shop techs got to make a living too.

My last mount was $50, but they charged my an extra $25 to pull the old bindings off. This part pissed me off kinda.

Denver homies where where you mounting at?

Idk man let’s do the math here. Let’s say the mount takes 1 hour to do:

30$ for employee pay

30$ for company expenses and parts

20$ for other miscellaneous costs

thats still only 80 bucks? I’ve never worked in a shop so somebody correct me but 150 still seems wicked steep. Are shop techs making like 60 bucks an hour or something??

Dude moment does it for free and you don’t even have to buy the skis from

them. Don’t even try to justify $150.

What kinda shop pays techs $30/hr?

Unless you're mounting the skis without a jig and also figuring out a mount point that isn't marked on the ski, it shouldn't take more than half an hour. If you have a jig for the bindings, a work bench and all the tools at hand it's a 15 minute job.

As I said, I was trying to be as generous as possible with this estimate, still only came out to $80 lol

If I have the jig, I can do a mount in 5 min. I wouldn't trust anyone to mount my skis without a jig, that's for sure.

Mounting with a paper template is pretty easy if you're careful. Jigs are nice but not that easy to come by for diy-ers.

15 mins would include set up and clean up, double checking everything and measuring for an unmarked mount point. I would only ever mount my own skis without a jig or with a paper jig.
