I searchbar-ed and found nothing, looked on the front page, saw nothing.

Rand Paul is running a filibuster in the senate, holding back the voting in of the new CIA director, who is pro-drone. Rand has been going strong for over 8 hours discussing the dangers of this administration's policy on droning-- being that they feel like it's within their rights to kill U.S. citizens with drones on U.S. soil-- and the implications of voting in the pro-drone CIA director.

What does NSG think about this? I share his opinions on this, and you better believe I get all hot and bothered for a good filibuster! Stand with Rand!

Good for him. I can't believe the Senate is really going to sit idly by as the Executive branch slowly chips away at our 6th amendment rights.

I think they have an emergency filibuster quote book. He's pulling these out of his ass. He was talking about nazis earlier

It would be alot more interesting if it was. They would be telling stories about getting dome in their teenage years

Can they teg team on a filibuster? Like could Rand hit up a fellow senator, or once he sits down, it's done? I feel like it's a solo effort.

Also, can other senators leave? I remember learning all this stuff in hs government, but I don't remember it much, aside from watching Mr. Smith Goes to Washington

He can pass it off. Ted Cruz from Texas is talking right now. They can keep passing it off for as long as they want. And nobody can leave until the filibuster stops or theres a 2/3 vote to end it.

Im nerding out on this more than I should

I dont see how preventing something that is ruining american foreign policy by doing something thats ruining the american legislature is a good thing let alone something that should be encouraged.

Filibusters aren't ruining the American legislature. Senators have doing filibusters for over a hundred years. If filibusters were actually ruining the legislature, it would be ruined by now.

What's far more concerting is that the executive branch wants the power to kill Americans on American soil without even a trial.

came here to post this. I think this whole thing is hilarious. They are definitely just screwing around now. Their tone is so sarcastic.

Now that I know why they're fillabustering, I'm surprised it's being treated like a partisan issue.

okay im kind of drunk but this person understands what im saying. and yes your second paragraph is true.

What is this shit?
so let me get this right, they have not even voted on this yet, they are fucking about talking about whatever to stop a vote happening?
thats fucking dumb, the whole point of having a democratic government is to have the public vote in people to make choices thats in the best interests of the people, not to sit on their asses.
if you don't want this dude to be the CIA director? fine vote not to have him in. if you lose the vote............poor baby, but is that the point, you debate, then vote everyone goes of and votes then the majority of the government rules, which is the majority of the public, if its not then they don't get voted in.
what a waste of time, energy and money. reason why you have a shitty dollar, and cant get shit done.

nope not true, australia and NZ.and most other westminster style parliaments don't have this issue,
Australian parliament has strict rules on the length someone can speak for making it pretty much impossible.

I'm not arguing about the reason for the fillbuster, its not important to the argument,
so whats going to happen, the crap on talking about the best ben and jerrys flavour or whatever until what.........the other side go "well i'm tired lets forget this whole thing."
just vote, and if you lose, well thats the fault of the american public for voting ass hats in to seats of power.
this is all over the place, you vote obama in then the ones who didn't vote for him say its the death of america and how some people want to stand at arms and fight to take america back.....WTF. thats your system, its the whole reason for america, that you get to choose you government....if you don't like what happened in the vote well tough tits, thats your right, to vote, and the right to vote comes with the responsibility to not act like a child when you lose.

Drone strikes in general are fucked. The us has killed around 800 civillians in Afghanistan. They will strike the target then wait for people that come out to aid people then strike again killing children, mothers, fathers, just regular civillians. Drone strikes with in the US IS CRAZY. We have the constitution and that would totally be unconstitutional to kill a US citizen with in the US with a drone. Rand Paul makes some good points. Obviously there needs to be some clarity and answers. I really dont see why the senate doesn't just vote on it and decide its un constitutional to kill US citizens with drones.
