My bindings are broken again

So I took a couple hard falls last night and I have found that on my salomon STH 12 bindings that I have a deep crack going through the front of the binding and one of my brakes are pretty messed up. These will be the second year in a row that I will have to buy new bindings due to damage during skiing. My question is what am I doing wrong? I assume that people fall all the time, but it seems that my bindings can't handle it. Should I have more durable bindings or what? Someone help me out here.

Those bindings are terrible. If you're hitting park jumps, rails, skiing hard and fast, you need to invest in a beefier binding.

The sth12 (at least from a few years ago) has a shit ton of plastic. Invest in something like the fks 140 or even the 180. Hell, even salomon makes an sth14 and 18 I believe.

Bindings get overlooked, but they're by far the easiest piece of equipment to break other than your poles.

You can either replace your bindings with a cheap pair every half a year and pray that they don't fail when you're above something high consequence, or you can cough up the 250-350 for a good pair.

I've honestly got the same problem, I've broken my marker bindings like 3 or 4 times in the last 2 seasons.

Same durability its just the 140 is for people who are less aggressive/not as big/going as big, the 140 only goes up to 14, the 180 goes up to 18. it's entirely dependent on your skill as a skier and size, im gonna take a guess and say you'd be better with the 140 to avoid ripping your knee into 12 tiny little pieces.

Not really no, well unless you go fks 180 but they weigh a tonn and are overkill for most people. The fks 140 is certainly no more durable then a sth12 driver and really if anything is less durable due to the poor brake design.

If your looking for a solid all round binding the general concencus seems to be the solly sth2 13 is currently your best bet. If you don't like those check out the aaatack 13 too.

ust to add this is very wrong. The fks 180 is the only one to feature the full metal driver toe. The 140 just uses the plastic px toe. If your going fks go 180 and if you don't need the 180 go for a different

The 180 has a completely different toe that is far more durable then that of the 140. I've seen plenty of blown up 140 toes, never seen an issue with 180's before.

Driver toe indeed. STH 14 Driver if you don't feel the need for the STH 16 (DIN starts at 9).

I live by these bindings, you can beat the shit out of them, and the only thing that's every going to need to be replaced is the brakes. Break the brakes on the FKS, and you're pooched.

PX 15s also use the full metal driver toe from the pivot/fks 18.

I've always had good luck with durability of my PX 14s, 15s and 18s. They rock.

Yes. Also if you require a lower DIN, the FKS 155s from back in the day have the same 1 piece toe as the 18 but with a smaller spring. VERY durable binding that will still release at lower park DINs.

To add ^ It is safe to set a pivot/fks 18 on its lowest din 8, it still releases like it should, no release value problems at all..

+1 for the Sth 14 drivers. I had an older pair of Salomon z bindings when I was younger and I blew up the toe which scared me from their bindings for a while. After breaking two pairs of griffons I switched to sth14's and haven't had a single problem in 1.5 seasons on them, even after hitting them square on the front of a rail. Never rode fks but I'm sure you'll be very happy with sth14's or the new sth2 13's.

The FKS 180 toe pieces aren't all metal. There is a plastic ring at the tip of the toe-piece surrounding the din adjuster which I have broken in the past through normal wear and tear. Maybe my case is an anomaly, but they are certainly not unbreakable.

Oh, well the FK 560s have poor support quality in the regional toe area so make sure to backcheck your scouts. ALSO! If you have any loose shoe wells dont hesitate to move them.

Did you try and warranty them? Bindings aren't supposed to break.

The problem with thhe most durable bindings on the market is that they usually have a very high DIN range. The most durable binding with the largest DIN range is the Head MOJO 15. It runs from 5-15 IIRC. They can usually be found under $200 as well.

Those are some impressive sidewall impacts.

I've never seen race toes break like that before, but I've seen the PX toe break like that a bunch of times.

Oh, and how do you like the Redeemer? I just picked up a pair of Directors.
