Mute Grabs

Yeah, so I know this is a really easy trick, and I know I'm not at all good at tricks yet, so don't waste your time telling me I suck. I can get my skis crossed and get the grab in the right place, but I can't seem to get my skis crossed to the full 90 degree angle to one another, so it just looks stupid. I figure I must be doing something wrong since this is supposed to be a really easy trick and I can do a bunch of other grabs really easily.

actually hte mute is a pretty advanced grab. i just got them good at the beginning of this season. i try to hook my grabbed ski in front of my other ski's binding, so that i pulls both legs up and is easier to tweak

It doesn't look that bad, it just looks better tweaked. And don't diss the mute grab, it might be easy but it looks fuckin boss. Probly my most used grab. By the way, if you just use your ankles you can tweak it pretty good...I started off being an idiot and trying to get it all the way across just by yanking on the ski. Gotta use the ankle too.

 
When I try to do a cross tailgrab, I can't get my hand on the tail. Do I just have to lean back and look for it or what?

^Yes, unless your skis are really short. It looks much better when you look for it, too.

 
When I go for a crossed tail grab I can never get my skis crossed, I always get the grab but the skis just wont cross it seems. Am I doing it wrong? Dont know what there would be to do wrong.

 
Like I said, use your ankles, it works on the back too. If you want you can get the cross down before the grab, but it looks dumb. Also, it's kinda tough to get a good cross if your skis are short.

 
Yeah, I hook my ski on the other binding too. To get a good cross I just tuck my knees all the way to my chest and during the process grab the opposite ski. Use the ankles for a good cross and use the arm to tweak it back.

dude, the un tweaked mutes are sick, just look at vinnie, he has awesome style and he never seems to tweak them out. and the un crossed tail grabs are fricken stylish, evan raps in The Game did the sickest D-Spins with uncrossed tails

oh and as far as my problems with mutes....i don't ever feel like i'm getting them to the full 90, but my snowboarder friends say i do when i nail the grab....sometimes if i don't stick the jump hard enough though i'll kinda forget to bring my ungrabbed ski up to make the cross

Yeah, I'm not really a fan of the mute grab myself.

But like the guy above said, the ones that look the best are only slightly crossed or not crossed at all. Another guy other than Vinnie is Mike D (fuckin awesome mutes).

Whenever you do any grab just make sure you have enough time in the air to tweak it out a lot, because if you don't you'll land on your hands or something...

yea a lot of people when they mute grab think cross NOW. no, u just gotta drop one ski, then u'll natually cross. I still don't get tweaking tho

I retract previous statement, mute grabs that aren't fully crossed look really good tweaked out to the side. Thanks for the tips, I think that'll help a lot. Now to get to a ski hill...

I think that most flips and spins look so much better with a cross in it. Most people I know (most boarding) think that the mute/cross is the coolest looking grab a skier could do.
