I dunno, i really just dont like em, i'd much rather see a nice japan or toxic, and if anybody wants to bust out the double daffy i'll throw my super moist pantys at them.

What do you guys think about 'mute grabs without cross'?(what it is called, actually?)

Basically, I suck at combining spins and grabs.. but this last winter I got 360's somehow dialed with grabs. Only thing is that my friends always complain that when spinning&grabbing mute I don't cross enough.

So, I was like 'what's wrong with that?' and ended up leaving the cross completely off (just to piss my friends:)...I just tucked up and grabbed over my skis (with left hand, I spin clock-wise) and just got this kind of safety-grab looking position (but grab just 'reached' differently)

Anybody doing this kind of thing? I've just been wondering sometimes that why not to do it that way, and leave the crosses maybe to other combinations/tricks?..I think it can be done in a way it looks smooth...

I personally think that crosses are cool,sometimes.. but not the only option at all.

For example, safety grabs with spins look so dope.

And, strangely, I don't like japans/lui kangs at all...they just don't look 'natural' to me, maybe because of 80's mogul skiing background I nowadays almost hate every move where skis are separated clearly (except occasional,'tongue in cheek' old school stuff and screamin seamens...)

Also, contrary to what seems common thinking today, I see many people concentrate too much on grabbing. Don't get me wrong now... with skis you just need so much more air compared to snowboard to make grabs look good, IMO...I see many young guys always trying to grab with spins and what not... but it would be maybe wiser to get the complete form dialed first. You know, trajectory, tucking up,crossing and tweaking, slow spins, controlled 180's etc.

Slow tucked up (and crossed) spins w/o a grab, and with lot of control are kind of underrated these days...I mean, if you can do corked 720 with grab, and do it in control and smooth that's very gooda dn very cool.... but on the other hand if do the same trick and just barely get a touch with the ski, what's the point? To some people it seems that only claiming that they did a grab with a trick is the thing, even if it doesn't 'add' anything to the trick...

Allright,quite along post with bad english (sorry, not a mother language to me)... hope you still got my point. And hey, don't take it too serioysly - if i'm just an old guy with best trick 'helicopter' in his profile who am I to say anything about style and grabs and stuff like that?...:D

 
I don't see how they're gay, you can tweak a mute more than you can a japan, when you tweak the heck out of a mute over a hip or something, you're so much more sideways and flowing w/ the trick. I mean you could do good japan, but you're body doesn't exaggerate as much. Different tricks look better w/ certain grabs too. And I think sometimes you see people trying to throw grabs and their spin isn't as controlled is because they are learning to throw the grab in, they can probably do the trick pretty clean w/o a grab, but throwing a grab in smoothly is a completely different component, because when you start learning to do that, a lot of people do the 180 grab 180 dealy, it takes some practice to get the grab and stay smooth throughout the rotation.

Mutes look good if you make them look good. Any grab looks good if the skier knows what it should look like.

Take for example the last issue of Freeze last season (spring 2002). Dybvig on the cover - good mute. Then go to page 70 'Camper Jeff Harrison enjoys.......' - bad mute.

I just personally really dont like that super tweaked style like Jeff Harrison is doing, just my opinion though. Later.

Mute grabs are just over used, that's all there is to it, i see them way too much and they've gotten boring.

BTW Harrison WASN'T doing a mute grab in that shot, it was a japan. It was also One of the biggest halfpipe airs I have ever seen in person. The photo does it no justice.

 
Listen to Jibtech. It was a Japan. And he's going bigger than just about has gone. Plus he's a racer who's on the US Team and is a better skier than all of you/us. He's also a damn good freerider. So step off fuckers.

Allright. Some good points doods.

Have to take it back a little... japans and lui kangs look best in pipe, qp and hip jumps IMO. There is a difference when you can lean to side, it goes kind of naturally with the jump's flow..

I was thinking about just straight airs in my earlier post (must be cause I haven't skied pipe myself too much...have to take time sometimes to do it a little more :)

Ok, enuff for the grabs...I'm thinking powder now...to the South-America for some summer pow on the 12th of July (sorry, I just had to put it down here, so stoked about the trip! :D )

 
actually dave and tyler...hes talking about the other mag...he does that 18 ft japan on the right wall in the one mag...and in the other he does mute on the left wall...i think they both be dope as shit...i dont know...its all about preference though. i really like the pollard style, but i also like some of the tweaked stuff...depends on the trick
