i honestly do not think a single one of those bands except for radiohead will have ANY influence/recognition in 20 years. Especially the "punk" bands. ESPECIALLY
Bands like Flogging Molly and Bad Religion may not have an influence in 20 years but I wouldn't be surprised if people still buy their stuff. Hell, Bad Religion has lasted since 1976.
This list is by far most accurate. Show me someone age 15-28 that doesn't know all the small things/what's my age again/dammit, and I'll show you a lying sack of shit.
Blink-182 won't stand the test of time. I know you are a big time Blink fan but when we say "stand the test of time" we mean like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and The Beatles and most likely bands like Metallica and The Who and how they will stand the test of time. The Doors and Sublime will be on that list (The Doors probably already are).
Bad Religion has been around since 1976 with just a year hiatus here and there. Blink-182 showed up and got super popular... and then took a several year break. Though not everyone likes Bad Religion a group like them has essentially already stood the test of time. They have been for the most part relevant for the last 30 years and to more than just the middle school aged people.
They've been very popular in the mainstream for 13 years now, and as I said before, literally everyone(appropriately aged) knows songs like all the small things. It's ridiculously catchy choruses like that that stand the test of time.
But regardless I wasn't only talking about blink, that list was very accurate. Everybody still knows the beastie boys, sublime etc.
i actually feel like "Crank That" and other terrible songs will be preserved like "Ice Ice Baby" just because of how bad it is, and the memories... kinda like how people still listen to the crappiest pop songs from the 80s
maybe a bit of an asshole, just don't like narrow minded kids who don't accept the greats as greats.
When I say in the last 15 years, I am not being super specific. I just am interested to see if anyone can see there being an influential group of musicians in the 90's and 00's the way there was in the 70's and 80's.
A lot of the ones on my list, obviously have already been mentioned.
I do not mean they have to keep making music forever, but I mean that their music will be admired forever.
in response to anyone who disagrees with the white stripes - seven nation army was the most well recognized song internationally since... almost ever.
Well, what I was kinda saying was the Blink, everyone our age (I am 21) probably knows them and listened to them. However, I know of no one in their 40s or 50 that has ever listened to them.
As an example, my dad and his entire ship listened to Bad Religion in the late 70s and 80s. My dad is now 71. That's part of what makes a band last through the years. You are listened to when you show up by people of all age groups. Not just a select group like Blink did when they showed up (primarily 14-24 year olds)
eh yeah, but the discussion which bands have been around in the past 15-20 years that you think will be still listened to in years to come. who will be the next elvis, johnny cash, led zepplin, hendrix, edith piaf etc. or who qualifies in this realm of talent/innovation/success.
Yeah, Bad religion came out during your dad's era and they rule, therefore people still listen to them today. However you don't see many 60 years olds listening to them.
Blink came out in our era and rule, and presumably people will continue to listen to them for generations to come.
Generally people cling to music of their generation and older, and won't accept anything new as legitimate.
Yeah, it doesn't make sense to do individual bands - there are too many. Each genre will have the bands which stand the test of time. Jazz, blues, metal, country, rock, rap, and anything else all have artists who are truly amazing and will be around for the better part of our lifetime.
Wow. 3 pages and none of you have said...

Come on people! They made trance!
As far as rock goes, i already voiced my opinion. I wish Tool was a lot more well known. Also, Death Cab might be remembered in 15 years... have to wait and see.
Holy fucking shit I seriously dislike you now. Listen to some REAL goddamn blues you fucking hipster. Black Keys is an uninspired ripoff of blues-rock, which is a ripoff of blues. They are a double ripoff. I have not heard an ounce of blues integrity in any of their music.

i would say probably bands like Dave Matthews, nirvana, blink 182, john mayer, death cab for cutie, tool, alice in chains..idk theres a good smorgus board of what to see as bands that last for a veryyy long time. its just that the type of music has changed so much its hard. its evolved into so much different shit.
