Music while doing schoolwork

just wondering if you guys could listen to music while studying, doing homework, writing papers... i know a lot of people who think it distracts them... personally i listen to instrumentals when i study and do homework, like jazz or classical or new age stuff like jackson conti... when im writing papers sometimes this music works for me... other times i really like mellow piano driven rock... sometime corperate, straylight run, mae... i really cant do much with no music on
 
I need to have chill stuff that I don't know they lyrics to yet, otherwise my brain latches onto them and starts singing along and I retain nothing but that bitch I'm the bomb like tick tick.

My moms best friend just game me the James Morrison CD for my bday so I'm loving that for this essay I'm writing.

But studies have shown that classical music while studying helps you retain information and relax. Water Music by Mozart is the best, apparently.
 
haha, i just made a thread on this yesterday...

yea i listen to h-mob, cali p, black keys, lots of chill/mellow/instrumental stuff.

it seems to help me concentrate and focus better instead of getting distracted by outside noises or movement
 
yeah i listen to music while doing homework all the time, actually.. i cant really concentrate without it. but i agree with only listening to the songs that you dont know the lyrics to, or else my brain is like "oh i wanna sing along" and i get sidetracked hella easy. and i mostly listen to reggae while doing hw
 
i like to listen to some techno especially basshunter.

this comes in handy for when i need to stay up really late and dont want to fall asleep
 
ratatat is really good expecially alot of their remixes also bonobo for extra concentration ability and phish and radiohead work well for me
 
i can't even sleep without listening to music, homework without music would be a tragedy.
 
Depends what I am doing, if i am doing Latin I can not have any lyrics or I am screwed, so I rock a classical mix cd that i have that is supposed to make babies smarter. For some reason Iron Maiden works really well when I write papers, I generally like lyrical hip hop and that does not work with school at all. Sometimes rock lemon jelly or john butler trio to.
 
I turn it on but block it out once I start so it's just background noise. But when its something not too hard and i just want to get it done with like math or writing i listen to something like queens of the stone age. Absolute worst thing for homework though, ski movie music. One minute im working the next i look down and I'm standing in my skis.
 
i spent 6 hours yesterday finishing up a draft of my final college thesis and putting together a powerpoint, the whole time switching back and forth between classical and trance electronica
 
thievery corporation is my choice for getting shit done. the cosmic game is my favorite cd by them; it's my main homework soundtrack. Not many vocal tracks, and the ones that are will have like a woman singing something in portugese so it's not very distracting at all.
 
I like it when it's fairly quiet, mellow music (jazz, classical etc.) in the background. Anything else, like through headphones or louder more upbeat music I can't handle.
 
i can only listen to music for math and science hw and stuff that has a straigh up answer with no interpretting. When it comes to reading and writing essays i just start losing focus cuz i get so bored with the essay and stop
 
meh it depends for me...

if im doing physics/math/chem,

i can listen to anything. but i prefer like, banger electro beats.

if im studying xcore or writing papers, then ill resort to mellow indie stuff like deerhunter, vampire weekend, radiohead...

 
truly depends what I am doing. If i am trying to read I can't listen to music. way too distracting. doing math homework I love music. and heck TOM PETTY is the biggest motivator. Trust me
 
hell yea. for sure.

im all about the music while studying.

i put on pandora station mix mostly....techno, reggae, and instrumentals. so dope. some hip hop thrown in as well
 
I like to listen to music when i am doing homework or writing essays, but it is chill music like a tribe called quest or wu tang. I don't listen to music while i am studying though because it sometimes does distract me.
