Music library and data- iPod

Alright so if i want to set up my iPod mini on a completely seperate computer can i just upload the music library and music data rather than transfer every single song to my new computer?

im just afriad that when i plug my ipod in my new computer its going to erase all of my songs, because you cant make it manual until you plug it in and by then wont it already be erasing my songs?

if it is a mac u can just plug it in, it wont dilete them, it dident for me... even if it does, just back it up right now
