Music in edits

Ever have like a song lined up for an edit in the future and then you watch an edit just drop and the song you were plotting on absolutely stunned. Such devasting news worst than stubbed toe I swear. Like I can’t belive they didn’t take my future unmentioned music choices into consideration before dropping an edit.

It happens, when it’s happened to me in the past I usually just shrug it off and say first come first served. The only time it’s been sort of a bummer is when it’s from a sick movie segment or edit that is just absolutely popping of and it was a song or artist I was sure was low key. Even then there’s nothing stopping you from still using said song.

This is how Gen X people feel when Marvel uses a Van Halen song in their movies

im p sure you're still good to use the song. if the edit you're talking about it super big, than you can play it off as ironic, and if it's small, no one will know. plus it's not like anyone cares what song Evancantspin uses.

That type of "rule" of respect is stupid in my opinion. It's just song, nothing serious.

If I hear a repeat song in an edit I'm gonna naturally compare it to the original video. Not that it matters for instagram imo but if you're putting the effort in to make an actual video you might as well try to find original songs. I don't consider it a rule, but personally I'm going to enjoy a video less if the song is from another video. I know a lot of people feel the same way

It’s a sign of laziness on the editor’s part lmao. There are unlimited songs out there and you gotta use something that someone already used? Wack as hell.

I say it's wack only if they knowingly do it, because there's so much ski content out there that many people have not seen the edit/segment that used the same song they want to. I try to give them the benefit of the doubt unless you know they have seen the original.

I definitely think it's better to use something new and unique and would never willingly reuse a song

i have a whole playlist full of songs for edits and parts, i also hella fw og trippie redd so im pretty safe. except a few capeesh vids.

I don't think it's wack. If I find a song that I would like to use, I will. It's not like the other one owns the song (different thing if they actually made it). It's just a song in a ski edit and shouldn't be taken so seriously. If I want use Sail in my super epic season edit, I will, I'm not going to change it just because It was used in a "Skiing is awesome 2013" .

Also I'm not going to go through hundreds of edits just to find if someone already used the song. Maybe chatgpt will but I won't

exactly, just realized that I used the same song Rudy used in psychoactive, wouldn’t have used it if I knew. I don’t think it matters when amateurs do it but it bums me out when pros do it

Yep, hit the nail on the head with this. Of course everyone wants to find music that hasn’t been used but I haven’t watched every edit and movie part that’s ever been made and If a song I want to use has been in something I’m not really gonna worry about it. Especially if the editing style and riding looks nothing a like, I might have a different vision of how that song could be used compared to how someone else used it.

Technically speaking the only real way to have original song is to produce the music yourself. The amount of times I’ve watched a ski edit and heard the song and been like oh ya this is used in this “skate part, snowboard edit, fishing video, tv show etc” is a lot and if I already know the the song I’m probably gonna compare it to whatever the original media was that I saw it initially. Regardless if it was skiing or not

I’m with this. Like you might as well choose a different song if you’re aware the one was used, there’s so many good songs out there. It gives your edit another way to stand on its own. (I am guilty of using some songs that have been used before)

I just think it's weird that a sport that is free and is about expressing yourself has a rule about using songs. If you like it, use it.

On a related note, if anyone wants some old school hip hop beats on their edits hit me up. Fresh and unused too btw

If it's an honest mistake, then whatever. I know a popular crew used a song I did from a couple years ago and it would be ridiculous if I was butthurt, especially considering I have under 100 subscribers and get little to no views.

It's not like a hardset rule. People are free to judge art by whatever criteria they choose and original music is just a popular criterion

Me carefully crafting the most fire edit of backslapped blind 2s to the song of guwop by young thug
