Music for reels

Hey m&a,

after finishing up my first winter reel and getting a lot of positive feedback, i've had a few people contact me that i should not have used a rap song in it. I am not using it for professional advertising, but i was just curious as to what style of music you guys have used in any demo/ski reels you have done. I understand rap is abrasive and "unprofessional", but i felt it flowed well with my riders and the mood i wanted to set. probably a dumb question to ask because there are millions of songs i could have chosen but i still am curious as to what you have used/or would have used.
 
reels are all about portraying your style. pick something that suits you as an editor, not something that follows rules
 
I can confirm that you will usually be dismissed if your reel has rap music.

However if you aren't trying to land jobs, who cares! Use what you like.
 
I watched Slamina on acid once, and couldn't stop laughing at all their ridiculously gangster tracks. Jurassic 5 flow real well, but they are heavy on the vocals. if your edit has a pretty srs vibe to it, check out Emancipator and Arms and Sleepers. they both make really awesome instrumental hip-hop stuff, and A&S incorporate some really sick post-rock sounds in their music
