Music for promotional edits

So the marketing manager at the mountain I work for wants me to start making weekly edits this season, but I'm a bit unsure of the rules as far as music goes. I've seen IRPC and Carinthia use songs by well known artists, I can't imagine that they've gotten the rights to those songs, but they're bigger mountains so I guess it is possible. Just want to make sure I'm not going to get the mountain in trouble, cause there's no way they'll let me purchase rights to mainstream songs. Would I be better off just using right-free music (it has to be "family friendly" music anyways, so just beats/no lyrics is the safest approach)?

you use anything unlicensed you risk legal action... lots of smaller artists will not care but I have co-workers who know of other action sports industry types getting fines close to 20 grand for using unlicensed mainstream music...

Ii will either contact the artist directly or if its something where the music is not a primary concern i will use http://www.themusicbed.com/ its got the best stock stuff out of all i have looked at...
