what if we could do away with all classifications and categories (especially the term emo) and just have 'good music' and 'bad music'? and what if people could respect what other people like to deem good and bad and not shut them down because of it? wow, i think the world would be a much better place. so do your part, and start right now.

I can see what you mean. But I think another way to say it is to stop looking at genres of music in a stereotypical way and look at them as a definition to the type of music. Emo is emotional punk so its not a term its a genre of music.

classifictaions of music is soo confusing! try categorizing all the different types of punk alone

changing the stereotype of skiiers one jib at a time

Face it, teh catagories help you find new bands, talk about those bands etc. They are not gunna go away, if you don't like them, don't use them.

genres were created so that people who liked a certain style of music could find new music that was similiar easier.

im all for that... but people arguing over what genre music should be in is pointless. shut up and listen to the music.

yah, nipe, so what happens when people classify bands under the wrong type/genre and people looking for new music find the band under that type thinking that it's correct and start spreading it? that's where the problems arise and people start aguing about classifications and not the music. and who's to say what's right and what's wrong? the point i'm getting at though is not to judge the genre the music/band is associated with, but the music or band itself on an idividual basis.

i see this problem especially with 'emo' bands. yah, not all 'emo' music/bands are great. most of them suck. however, don't make assumptions that all 'emo' music is crap just cause you heard one bad band.

also, classifications scare people away from new music cause it's 'emo' or 'hardcore' or some other classification and they know they don't like that type of music so they don't even give the band a listen.

generally most bands of a certain type of music sounds very alike, so if ya dont like one you almost surely wont like the other. why would i download pop and romance by accident looking for punk and hip hop? classifications prevent such things.

i just think that kids need to be educated on the right genres of music so that these mix ups dont happen. Most of them should stay with mainstream anyways..alot of kids stray into sub genres and quote underground unquote music just because either its differnet and they want to stand out or whatever.. and they drag their own uneducated ideas of genres into it. As long as ignorant people are willing to learn than thats cool. otherwise the whole system of genres is screwed up, and thats exactly what the system was set up to prevent.

i just want to get one thing off my mind, emo is not punk, emo is emo, there are subcategories of punk if you will , emo is not one of them, sorry if this disapoints some people, just my view, i think it is its own type of music

but you can get like different emo also, emo vs emocore, i don't know what you want to call it, but i guess there are subcategories of emo aswell
