lil wayne, jack johnson, and dave matthews band. i really would just love it if jack johnson quit playing music forever.

I cant stand Iron Maiden. I hate Coldplay. ke$ha gives me a headache. john mayer, bruno mars and jason mraaaazzzzz all suck.
 
yes, yes they are. even if you don't like them you simply can't deny that they are very adept musicians.
 
Drake is garbage, black eyed peas were never good, I hate AC/DC and their hardcore fans and I think nirvana would have never been so popular if cobain didn't kill himself.
 
if Nirvana was never popular Cobain wouldn't HAVE killed himself. He did it as a result of being popular. the rest I agree with
 
ok well obviously they're not amazing musicians instrumentally. no bela fleck. but they know damn well how to use them and express themselves with their instruments. and that only compliments their songwriting. which is fantastic. go listen to their album in its entirety keeping only song writing in mind. it's really really excellent. lyrics are good too.

I just can't deal with his voice, but he is a fantastic musician.

Would rather listen to railroad earth, greensky bluegrass, bela fleck, old crow, del mccoury, cornmeal

Could go on. Mumford strikes me as wanna be folk/bluegrass. Def don't see any really special musicianship in it.

I guess it's catchy, that's about the only thing it has going for it.
 
It's pop-folk.

Pop musicians are never instrumentally the greatest. But they know damn well how to write a song that appeals to the masses. like you say, catchy. obviously you have at least some knowledge of folk/bluegrass and as a result have an expectation instrumentally for a band which dabbles in that genre. and they don't meet that expectation which one would get from listening to bela fleck or old crow.

they're a band who's popular for a reason. it's not because they're forerunners in a genre or do anything unusual or outstanding or virtuous or have pioneered anything. they're popular because they just make great songs that the general populous enjoys.
 
True, that's what I was going to say in a way. Not quite as detailed. They def do a good job for what they're doing.

And I guess if it guess the masses to listen to something with a banjo for once at least that's something.

I think the Blueprint is extremely overrated. I think Public Enemy is extremely overrated.

I think West Coast rap kinda sucks, not really into Dre or Snoop or Eazy or NWA or any of that shit. Like its overrated but I don't hate it.

Think Tupac is overrated but don't hate it.

Black Eyed Peas, LMFAO - duh

Thought Cee-Lo's album sucked, thought Fuck You sucked.

K'Naan sucks.

Atmosphere is overrated. A lot of 'underground hip hop' is straight depressing and overrated.

Mashup artists, but Feed the Animals was dope.

All metal music.

I fucking love DMB, i have almost every song ever and i plan on even getting a tattoo. i respect people who don't like dave but acknowledge his talent.
 
I can listen to anything other than country. I definitley prefer some music over others but im not gonna say i hate an artist because theyr'e popular. That's fucking stupid. This is what im getting from this thread. Since when is it cool to not like popular music? If you like the song, you like it. I hate all these threads of people hating on music. Really it's not a big deal if other people like something you don't. Truth is they probably think you listen to shit music. Get off your high horse and deal with diversity. I mean its not like i really listen to a lot of other mainstream hip hop. And ive tried to like him, i really have, i just cant get into it. I dont think hes awful or anything, but i dont see the legend status everyone raves about. And yes i know thats basically sacrilegious to say, but hes just not my thing.
