Multible triples in the Olympics.

Is this going to happen? In my eyes the jumps are big enough and there are guys that have 3 different triple flips. Will there be runs with only triples?

triples of the last jump but i dont think the first or second jump are big enough, the snowboarders were doing triple underflips which are easier than triple corks as you flip faster

I don't think there will be runs with only triples. However the skiers that do have a triple in their arsenal will definitely be throwing them on the last jump.

More to add to this thread: Does anyone think Shaun White will throw/land a triple in the pipe? Despite some negative opinions skiers on NS may have, a triple in the pipe takes fucking balls and you have to respect the guy for pushing the limits.

Also: Is a triple in the pipe (on skis) possible?

The second and third jumps are definitely both jumps where triples can be thrown, Sage threw 2 triple corks in his run

Check your facts again homie. Sage didn't throw any triple corks in his run. He won because of his style and unique grabs, Fingers crossed the ski judged judge the same as the snowboard and reward creativity and style over bucking triples.

He almost killed himself trying it the first time and I don't think he has tried one since then that wasn't into an air bag. He may try it in his second run if he is desperate. Also I doubt we will ever see pipe triples on skis, I don't think anyone can get the amplitude to do one.

Will be interesting whether people will do 2 triples or not, I think it's possible but it's a risky move and who knows if the judges will like it or not. A bunch of people have been doing them in practice though.

Side note, Joss Christensen just joined the triple club. And at the same time he held the grand opening of the unnatural triple club. #twobirdsonestone

Regardless of triples, this comp is going to be absolutely insane and so much fun to watch.

With any luck they will do two triples and get low scores like the snowboarders. Sadly, while the snowboard judges clearly made an effort to prioritize style and creativity over aerials, I dont think the ski judges will do the same.

It will definitely happen. Most likely not at the Olympics but it will definitely happen within a year or two. Gotta be a perfect pipe though! Kevin or David will be first.

Although i do think throwing more than one triple is possible (the jumps are big enough), it isn't going to guarantee you a gold medal. Mcmorris threw 2 triples in his run but was scored lower than Sage because of Sage's better style.

IS Hennie throwing the nose butter trip? I've got £££ on him to win so hoping he brings it out! Also any chance of who you think will win from watching practice? Will get some money on them haha Good luck in the pipe too

Its going to be a triple fest anyway, personally i couldn't help being stoked if someone sacked up and went for 2 in one run.

Does it still count as unnatural if it's easier for you than regular? Because I'm guessing it was a switch unnatural tripple, which for joss, spinning switch unnaty is easier than regular. (I remember him saying that in an interview at some point)

which begs another question, do unnatural spins matter unless you do both directions in your run?

And because of the difficulty and variety of tricks Sage did. An upright front 10 off the toes with a double nose grab. That shit was nuts and he took it sooo deep. It was a real win for snowboarding that that run was awarded the highest score.

We'll definitely see some triples on the third jump, I saw a few beauties during practice yesterday. I'd be pretty surprised if anyone tripled either of the other jumps though.

What's really interesting is if there's enough speed for Dollo's butter tricks. Jump 1, for sure. The other two... I feel like it will depend a lot on the speed on that particular day.

From the video it looks like the jumps have a pretty flat trajectory. They're big, but its distance big vs. kick big.

Is that correct?

Farther up in the thread about unnaty trip, you're right I totally spaced on Woodsy, but joss started the switch unaty one still haha ;).

The jumps definitely look like they have flat trajectory, I think it's partially because of how massive they are. I mean the take off has to be like 100 feet itself, it's insane! But they are by far the loftiest jumps I have ever seen. Doubles look like the slowest looking things I've ever seen. You know how Bobby can do dub 10 on a jump vs someone else it looks wayyyy slow? Imagine that x2.

If it's as warm as it was for the women's slope I think it's gonna be tough to butter any of 'em. Although I'm not there so it's hard to say, it looks like speed was really tough with the slush. Then again, the men have a few extra pounds so that may help with speed.

Wing tai could get the air needed to triple. I don't know whether he could do it without tearing both ACLs again though.

from watching other comps it doesnt look like much speed is lost on the butter tricks anymore. When henrik is doing slope runs it doesnt look like he is taking in much more speed than anyone else for it, i might be wrong though, he does seem to have the mastered and can do them on anything in any condition almost.

Looks like the weather is meant to be nice tomorrow which is good. Also the men have been going twice the size as the girls all week. Saw someone go a good 10 feet beyond the final line of the second jump today which is just over half way down the landing. (He double ejected and tomahawked, it was very violent.) The main concern right now is that the landings are super slushy / punchy snow and the takeoffs are icy. Fingers crossed it's nice tomorrow for those guys!
