Hey NS I currently have a k2 sidewinder X country mountain bike. (pictured below)

I am getting a little bit too good for this bike(i still have all stock parts on there) I want to get more into Downhill and / or dirt jumping. I would like to keep the frame but otherwise I dont really care about the other parts. What parts should i get and put on this frame. For dirt jumping as well as for downhill. I was thinking a more burly fork but not sure which kind to get. I was also thinking hydrolic brakes instead of cables. Thanks for any help

Just buy a rugged hardtail. I recommend NS bikes. Solid completes that will definitely handle downhill. And not too expensive. Also check out the Specialized P Series, a Kona Stuff, some Norco's etc. There are a ton of options.

you're going to spend waaay less money just getting a new bike. Get one with a more dh/ jumping geometry. If it's a hardtail it'll still pedal xc stuff fine.

You can go two routes... get a street dj bike like a norco 250, or get something a little more mountain-y like a norco sasquatch.

Think about what you want to ride more. Youo'll alway have your other bike for more xc stuff as well.

But I'd look into a Kona Stuff, Specialized P. series bike, giant stp, or something along those lines.

im gonna have to vota against the kona product, i broke my hardtail a few years ago

look used, i sold my built blk mrkt mob for 1000 bucks, and that bike was 100x the bike that any hardtail you can pull off the rack is.

hell, im selling a full blown dh race bike for 1000 bucks right now, its really a buyers market

They're decent to start on, but if you can get something better, do it. I'm on a Kona right now and it served me well, but now it's holding me back. I need a new frame SO BAD.

i have a NS traffic, and i started with a Giant STP SS, i swapped most of the parts and trust me, its cheaper to just buy a new bike. the NS bikes are so good and hydrolic brakes are also good. i have hayes stroker rydes and i love them. also stay away from marzocchi dirt jumper forks. go with pykes or argyles. Fox forks are unreal but they are more $$. but all in all, just try to get a whole new bike rather than spending money on all parts that wont be what you want because they most likely wont fit on your frame. good luck.

Actually i like the idea of a hard tail dirt jumper. Maybe get a NS frame and some other fork. hyrdolic disc brakes and just a single speed? Any ideas? I really like Ns frames though.
