anyone in the Northeast wanna hit up Mt. Wash this weekend?
 
i'm not sure what i was looking at, but looking out from the top of loon made me feel like i was in middle earth or something. and yes, i just made a lord of the rings reference, whatever.
 
it belongs in vt if anything. NH isn't exactly known for our dope backcountry and powder days
 
really sick, hoping to make it up sometime in mid-april... no way i could get up there anytime soon with my course load, damn classes....
 
one of my friends worked up there as a caretaker and he told me that a couple weeks ago they had pow that was 3% meaning it is very fluffy and can slide easily. he has skied it many times this winter and worns anyone that goes up not in the spring when the snow is soft to be educated about avalaches and portect yourself

thats a terrible idea. no one skis tucks until at least late march early april due to massive avy danger and mad wind and bad conditions. if you ski it your almost garunteed an avy right now
 
i always see mount washington from stratton and i didnt realize how far from stratton it was. and i found out i thought that mountain belonged out west
 
avalanche warnings change daily man so thats not really true at all...and its mt.washington there is always "bad conditions" and a lot of wind lol.
 
he was but he came home a few weeks ago but has a friend up there and i think that is where he is located but im not sure
 
That's not true. People ski tuckermans and the surrounding area the second there's snow. I've done it in late December, mid-January for guiding practice, and know people who've done gulf of slides in mid-feb during high slide danger.

It's all about the slope, the previous conditions, and your willingness to walk away.
 
Thank you for that. I really wasnt even going to respond to that post just because some people are so ignorant.

To everyone out there... There are quite a few people on this site that can actually ski outside of the park. And this may come as a huge shock to you, there's also a number of people on this site that are willing to hike YES HIKE CAN YOU BELIEVE IT! to do some sick skiing. It's a great big world outside of perfectly manicured jumps and rails. Do yourself a favor. Meet some people that know their shit, and go skiing with them on some big and risky terrain. Learn from them and have a great time doing it. Don't be afraid of adverse conditions. Yeah I agree that things like wind and snow make things more dangerous, but with the proper caution and training, you can overcome just about everything.
 
that being said, anyone skiing tux in winter conditions should do snow stability tests and be using beacon, probe, and shovel
 
3% doesn't stress the snowpack very much, so it really doesn't slide easily unless there's a lot on top of something weak or it's wind affected.
 
yeah i dont do crazy backcountry because i live on the east coast in mass. not much to do here other than parks. ive done some intense shit outwest before. and your post is just as ignorant and everyone elses, you talk like your a god. relax bud i was just saying MOST people dont ski until late march and april due to imminent avy threat and windblown conditions
