Mt Seymour Value Pass

I am actually gonna be on campus (hopefully) for my second year at UBC next winter and am looking to be ready to finally ski up there.

I am definitely gonna buy a whistler student pass when they go on sale and that's gonna be my go-to whenever I have a full day off of class but I also wanna have a pass to a local for part days, night skiing, or when I'm just super busy. I realized I missed the good deal on grouse and I'm definitely not gonna pay for a full price pass there, and cypress is also expensive, so I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go seymour. A good park is pretty important but I'm looking to ski natural terrain when the snow is good, also good sidecountry/bc access is a plus. The value pass (weekdays) looks like a great deal especially since I'll be trying to ski whistler basically every weekend, but it would be annoying if I was too busy too go up there and my seymour pass wasn't active. Any fellow students have an input on whether its worth it to pay double for the full pass? Or any other tips for local vancouver skiing?

people call it free-mour for a reason

Are you saying people hike in or just that it's cheap? Not from the area, don't know much info about the mountains outside of whistler

everyone I know just walks past the scanner, lifties don’t give a shit. If it was owned by a big corporation i wouldn’t feel bad doing it but it’s family owned so i buy my pass

personally if were you and getting a whistler pass I would just get the value pass for seymour. the northshore mountains on weekends seem to always be a gongshow I usually only try to go up on weekdays. But if you don't get a whistler pass than i could see the regulars pass being of value

I guess if you really wanted you can always hike to the brockton chair cause there's no scanner there at all if you don't wanna get caught lol

word, probably just gonna buy the value pass cuz its so cheap and I wanna keep it legit. Is it worth it to pay more to get a pass at grouse or cypress instead? I was probably gonna get the y2play grouse pass but I wasn't paying attention and it sold out in like a week, but seymour seems like the most chill anyway. Cypress seems expensive and I heard the park is bad, but it is way bigger. Ig I could get the weekday there but its the same price as a full pass to seymour

for real i've only skied cypress this year but looking back I would rather gotten a grouse or seymour pass. cypress always so busy and pretty badly run imo. park is never amazing at cypress either

definitely gonna have a whistler pass and gonna try and ski most often there but I want somewhere to ski when I don't have time for a 2 hr drive each way. Probably gonna live on campus cuz I don't know anyone in the city so it will still be annoying to head to the locals, but I should have a car

out of the vancouver mountains cypress is my favourite and I hate grouse. Seymour is hit and miss and this year night skiing line ups were longer at seymour in my experience. in the end it’s really up where your buddies go

If u hate grouse then you must not ski park. I would agree that lift lines on weekends generally suck

for all mountain skiing I would definitely agree that cypress is the best of the local mountains.

grouse= vancouvers 'core' park skiing community, seymour= vancouvers 'core' park snowboarding, cypress= most expensive, most all mountain terrain, but shit park. imo grouse is the best deal because of the Y2play, not sure if u missed that sale tho.

ya I missed it, wasn't thinking ahead and it went in like a week in march

I skied grouse all 3 years I was on campus at UBC, I strongly recommend it over Seymour if you're looking to make some park skier friends. If you have a car going nightskiing after class is amazing, never any liftlines and a dope park.

Yeah but is it worth more than 3 times the price? I think I most likely would have gone grouse if I could get the y2play but that's gone now and as far as I can tell they have no weekday pass that I could get for cheaper

I like Grouse more overall, but I would probably go Seymour in that situation too. Maybe make some boarder friends?

It's not like 725 is that crazy for a season's pass though missing the y2play sucks.

Yeah it's not bad if it was my go-to but I'll hopefully be at whistler 75% of the time so I'm more looking for a cheap backup for nights and weekdays. Hard to beat 225 for weekdays and nights on weekends, plus from looking at google earth it seems like seymour accesses cooler backcountry. The grouse park looks a little bit better but seymour looks cool and jibby and if I want good jumps I have whistler for that. Hopefully I can find a few ubc homies who ride seymour

I have had passes to all 3 over the years. Most stoked on Seymour and regretted it immediately when I went for the silver pass at Cypress last year. Back to the Seymour value pass and stoked about it.

Did y2play for a couple years way back in high school and while the park was rad (I'll agree, the best on the shore) and the scene was legit, the mountain is kinda boring and the corporate vibe is pretty wack. And the lower elevation means Grouse might be getting rain while the others are getting snow. And the tram does suck. Nothing worse than spending hours in the fresh air and being crammed into a tram and subjected to the end of day stank of like 100 people.

Cypress management actively tries to limit the "advanced" park features to limit liability, and it really shows. Their park is a joke. The runs are longer and the trees are sick, but it's much more fall-line and densely forested and I don't find it nearly as playful as Seymour. And with the silver passes being such a good deal, it gets rammed busy.

Seymour's terrain is super playful for when you wanna find side hits and bomb (they rake some of the best side hits around the mountain and generally encourage sending, unlike Cypress). But the park is also super fun and while it is definitely the core snowboarding scene, they're all really chill. Last week park crew had just closed the park and as I was rolling by homie recognized me and said I was cool to take a last lap through. Good vibes. In a normal year by spring time the park starts at the top of mystery and works its way down the whole mountain. And the Baked Salmon is a fun ass event.

You've obviously seen the Boyardee boys crushing Grouse, but the Seymour park got absolutely wrecked by The Sensorial Quartet the last week or two if you want a reference.

And don't mind my double post after that longass one, but yeah the backcountry is real fun and where you'll see City Booter built every year.

And I'll be up Seymour a couple times a week next season for sure. Give a holler. ON3Ps and blue Trew jacket should be the kit.

Sounds like exactly the kind of mountain I'm looking for! My main kit is a green 686 jacket and I run moments for all mountain and j skis in the park (was on on3ps the last 4 years but they finally bit the dust a few months ago), I'll definitely plan on being there weekdays whenever my school schedule allows and some nights too.

I think grouse has some sort of early bird pass that's cheaper. But the y2play always goes on sale in the spring so If u get it next year in the spring then u can ski for the rest of the season, plus the entire next season. Also anyone feel free to hit me up if ur skiing grouse, Im usually skiing of vishnus with the gems graphic

Anyone been up to grouse recently? Was looking forward to skiing park at whistler this spring but it's closed now. Grouse has a $99 spring pass that would be pretty sweet if the park is any good

It’s not on par with most years because of covid (no XL line on cut, slightly fewer rails) but still so much fun right now and the rail setups are pretty creative. 2 L jumps, 1 M jump, 1 hip, tubes and combo rails etc.

Thanks! I went a couple times this week and it's awesome. Say hi if you see me, I'll be riding solo with yellow pants and shitty old AR6's

if you wanna ski park, wait until february, buy the student y2play pass at Grouse. $350 for the spring and all next season. cant be beat. HMU if you wanna shred some downrails!
