Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley Arizona: Decent??

Hey guys,

I'm a college student living in Golden, Colorado who is transferring to the University of Arizona in Tucson this spring..... I know, sounds like I'm commiting ski suicide, right? Well I've had three+ years of skiing 70+ day seasons at the best resorts in North America, Vail, Aspen, Snowbird, Alta, Jackson, Whistler, you name it.... and now I need to remove myself a bit from skiing so I can finally get my shit together and graduate.... Anyways I was wondering if any Arizona skiers knew much about Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley outside Tucson? They don't seem to have a website..... I called their snow 'hotline' though, really funny recording, talkin about their famous chili and stuff.... but more importantly they said they just got 19" of pow! Damn! This is Tucson we are talking about! Any BC potential around there I wonder? I've been there in the summer many times and it actually looks pretty decent....Oh and sorry if this belongs in a regional forum, there doesn't seem to be one for AZ not surprisingly haha......

Stay Steazy,

Phil.

Transferring to the U of A to get focused? Haha man there will be so many hot girls there, good luck getting on track.

Alright well here's the thing, Mt. Lemmon is a mountain, thats for sure, but as far as skiing goes.... not so much. When they get enough snow to open, they close the roads, haha. It is however the southern most ski area in North America, thats kinda cool. I have yet to go there, been turned around twice by police, and still am working on getting up there.

Best bets:

--Sunrise Park resort (sunriseskipark.com)

I was an instructor there last year and it's pretty dope, decent mountain, but not really any park, some BC for sure if you look a bit.

--Flagstaff Snowbowl (arizonasnowbowl.com)

This place is way legit, sick mountain, lots of verticle, and pretty sweet park. The park manager there is a twin tipper and rides Ninthwards, he is also a rep for them for southwest.

So if you wanna ski AZ, and twin tip, there are the few and the proud. I think I can name all of them on one hand.

Anyways, hit me up cause I can tell you anything you want to know about AZ, and I got to U of A and also twintip. W e have a DOPE SKI CLUB called "elevation" we are sponsored by Neff beanies, Sessions outerwear, and a couple of others. I am the ski coordinator and photographer for the club. Check us out on facebook "ESS - Elevation Ski and SNowboard Club"

It is open right now with 20+ inches. The roads are not closed, the snow gets kinda thick towards the middle of the day. No BC at all unless it snows huge amounts. Its good to get out for the day and there is lots of natural stuff to play with. Oh yeah and bro the UofA may not be the best place to get focused............but you can decide when you get here.
