Mt Hood Snow Watch

It looks like everyone's efforts on the Official Pray for Snow Day (Oct 18 if you didn't get the memo) are paying off - it is dumping up here at everyone's favorite East side resort.

I have been fighting the urge to rip through the parking lot like a professional rally driver all day (though I have been sideways a few times ;-). AWD Chevy Astro Van is probably not the best vehicle for the job, anyway.

It is warming up, but the snow seems to be sticking surprisingly well. Though I still suspect this will probably melt over the next few days, the ground appears to be cold and that is making me pretty optimistic for some snow accumulation from the next few squalls that come through.

Yea the freezing level is supposed to go back up tonight and tomorrow and stay pretty high up through the weekend. gonna be clear the whole time so no rain to melt it!

Unfortunately the extended weather forecast is calling for clear skies until next weekend (Friday Oct 31 and Saturday Nov 1). I saw record highs predicted for this weekend :-(

At least the Palmer should be nice and soft this Saturday...Which would be great if I didn't have to be here to work at the Job Fair. Jib some rocks for me boys.

i dont mean to alarm anyone, but i just checked the forecast, and it says 2-4 inches tonight AAAANNNNDDD

7-11 INCHES TOMMOROW.

Weather report from the East Side for Sunday, November 2, 2008 -

I can confirm that it has been snowing basically all day. This is a really frustrating storm, however, in that it is still about 34 degrees and nothing has been sticking at the lodge level. It does appear to have been collecting at around 6000 ft or so and it has started to cool off enough that it is just now (3 PM) staring to accumulate on the ground and on my car. At this rate, I may have to brush an inch or two off when I leave in an hour and a half.

The snow dances are working, kids. Now get fucking started with your cold dances.

dang i hit reply to soon. is that 10 inches on palmer? is it open when its storming? or is that just down below where its flatter?

I don't want to give anyone false hope (particularly given the forecast for warming and rain over the next few days), but I hiked for my first turns at lunch and was at times wading through snow drifts up to my waist (the turns were nothing to write home about - it was the principle). I also spent the last half and hour digging out a vendor truck that had high centered in the parking lot.

Woo Hoo!

OMFG! It is so nice up here today. The snow report on the website (12 inches new, 19 at base) may be a bit conservative. It is like a mid winter powder day.

I am, however, a total moron in that I left my powder skis by the door after setting them out so I wouldn't forget. Invaders are not ideal in these conditions :P

There are a bunch of crusty hippie types skinning for turns and some delinquent snowboarders hiking - I guess Newschoolers are too studious to ditch school.

So epic! hopefully it holds up to the few days of rain we are about to receive. Might head up sunday if its not raining

forecast for the weekend is snow level at 8000 feet, so we may see some melting, but then back down to 4000-6000 the next week for more snow. Their predictions for an early opening could actually be a possibility this year...

There calling for snow sat through the week. Maybe we wont lose to many inches?
I think meadows could open next weekend
