Mt hood public park for next summer

yo im likin that idea a lot... if i was old enough to go id def go. CDC trip to Mt. Hood? Im down.
 
camping = free logding.
cooking yourself= maaad cheap food from costco
riding = 45-50 per day.

totally worth it man, sunny warm park, tons of kids throwing down, and you're skiing lift serviced shit in july. cant beat it.
 
i recommend driving out with a few friends, and camping where ever you go. Try to go after the Burton ASJ event, the park will be the best then. You can camp in the woods at the end of the parking lot, and if you have a car you can go down and clean yourself in one of the streams or lake or something. That water is super clean mountain water. I flew out and caught a ride from the airport to Hood, and slept in a tent for 4 days in the woods near the parking lot. Had to charge my phone outside the lodge at night, and couldn't shower, etc. Had to hitch hike for food. It was fun, but a lot of work and kind of boring aside from skiing.

or, if you know anybody working at t-line or living in govy, see if you could crash on their couch. or even check couchsurfers.com or whatever the hell it is.

camping isnt bad later in the summer, but the weather in june can be really shitty, and would make camping even shittier.

and yeah, going out after ASJ is your best bet too, the public park is out of control after that - and even if you can't, you can always dig-to-ride at windells if the public park sucks...
 
i dont know why more people camp. i guess a bunch of people are just pussies or something, i mean shit, it's free, its sweet, its chill, its close, etc etc.

You could always sleep in a ravine high up and just try to ride for free. Its risky though.

Lots of snow on hood this year. Parks should be pretty good.

People have been telling me that airline tickets this summer are reallllll steep. Im out on the EC and I'm wondering if its cheaper to take the 3,000 mile drive or pay for a ticket. Obviously I'd have friends with me, but what have other people here done?
 
im wondering the same thing. I checked tickets and I think it's like $600 round trip or something. Is it worth the drive?
 
Now will high cascade own the lane that the ASJ was in instead of the lane being owned by timberline?
 
Fuck no!! Gas will be 3.50 per gallon if not $4.00 by then!!! plus thats 6-7 days round trip dirining. I'd onlt be worth the experience if you made it a road trip tour.
 
Thats similar to what I want to do. I just need a ride up there and I need super cheap but I realllly want to get up there for a week or whatever I can.

I just got back from a few days at the pub park and it was soo much fun. After my experience tho..being someone who likes quick laps i would not go to windells becuase of how long it would take to lap the lane or hike all day that's just not me. Not to mention windells is about 20 minutes from the chair

Any who...if you can hook up or get in contact with guys that work at tline i'm sure you could get a couch to crash on at govy...really chill and everyones pretty damn cool

camping at the end of the parking lot in the woods is it a legit like camping ground or is just woods that your not really supposed to be camping in but people do it anyways.
 
the question is do you want instruction?

there's still quite a bit of stuff to do, the public park is pretty good and is lift accessed, there will always be kids in the public park that should be the least of your worries, and the lodging and windels isn't exactly a luxury sweet, it's bunks in cabins. i suggest you like at the MHSSC too for camps too, its the most affordable, or seriously look into COC or Momentum if you have the money, as they seem to be better IMO (lift serviced, more in depth instruction (you have to ask for advice at windels), nice hotel rooms, better food, more non skiing activities, WATER RAMPS...ect.)
 
my opinion goes by this:

If you plan on paying for a camp and want more than just skiing....go to whistler

If you just want to ski bum it up but don't want camp or instruction go to hood...the pub park is dope

 
take the $ you would have spent on windells and buy more lift tickets and stay longer, the biggest advantage windells has is coaching
 
never been, but the public park sounds sick. that'd be epic to go on a roadtrip to hood....just bring friends and that would be the sickest summer getaway
