Hello Im from Norway, 19years old and planning going to hood next summer.

Some questions:

1. Do I have to sign up for the windells camp to use the park?

2. Where is the best/cheapest place to stay in oregon? (near mt.hood)

3. When should I come? june/ july......???

plus karma for GOOD answers!!

yes you do have to be a member of the windells camp to use their park i don't know about the lodging and i would say the sooner the better because there will be more snow the sooner you go

I thought Hood also had a public park, or is it just Windells and MHSSC? I think he was referencing to the public park. I've never been but I know Windells has a park and there is a separate public park. Definitely go earlier on in the yearthough, I would say around June. Again I don't know if I'm correct about the park, and I know to use Windells' park you have to be a camp member.

oh i'm sorry i misunderstood your question yes there is a public park at hood that any can hit, but i doubt you'll able to hit windells maybe mhssc though later in the day

look into Windells all you need to do is book what session you wanna go, then they arrange the rest but u do have to figure out the plane flight and everything
but my bro went this year and had Tom Wallisch as his coach (claim) idk anything can really compare to that

if money is not an issue i would definetely do a camp but it would be much cheap to just ski public. And public is really sick in my opinion the jumps are well made usually decent size nothing to big but it's alot of fun

I dont think money will be a problem. Anyone have videos or pics of the public park??

Anyone been to the adult camps? Anyone know how much the adult camp will cost?

the public park is fine, camp out in late june with the hesh kids, its free that way!

im naked right now.
srsly

Here's a link to Windells, they have some videos on there and the website is extremely informational.

Mount Hood Public park videos:

I don't know if this one is all in the public park but it's T Wall

and one more:

Hope I've helped.

Yes, in order to use the Windells park, u need to be with windells, but ther is a public park.and i went in June, but it all depends on hwo the snow is before windells opens.the later, the better features.Karma?

you can ride windells park without being in camp, but it costs a good chunk of change per day.

the public park can be pretty sick. i have no idea what it was like last year (since it moved) but it usually has some good jumps and some rails and boxes that are worth hitting.

lift tickets are pricey though, and a summer season pass won't save you much money unless you intend to ride a ton.

the best time to go, i would say, is early mid july onward. sure, you can go in june, but usually the weather can still suck a good bit up there; lots of fog, and some rain.

if you're ok with being gritty, you can camp at the airstrip (~2-3 miles SE from government camp) for free.

you would probably stay at the windells facitliy, they have a great skate park there, if you signed up. Staying in Goverment camp would be ideal because it is just plain awesome. Windells is just about in goverment camp so it does not really matter. if you plan on skiing the whole time, id reccomend staying with windells, if you want to other things along with alot of skiing, (mountain biking, swiming, camping) stay in one of the inns.

timberline has a public park that gets better around july after a big comp.. the other camps MHSSC and windells have pricate parks but the kids leave at 2 pm every day so they are poachable.. cheapest form of living is camping or if by some miracle as a norwegian you can manage to get a jobthen you might be able to get employee housing.. otherwise you might look in the oregon forums and post about housing next summer.. etc.. best of luck!!!

There is a rail jam in july but it doesn't make the park better. MHSSC will let you dig so you can ride their park. Windells is strict and not worth the hike to try to even get there. You can buy a day pass to ski their park but you will end up spending $50 for a ticket and $80 for there park pass.
You could camp at the airstrip with a car and a tent for free. Make sure to check the whether history to find out the best time to come. Its a real drag if you get stuck with rain. Try to make it out hear from June-July. August requires a lot more hiking.
If you don't want to pay for a $50 ticket then head up at around 10 o'clock and ask a racer for his pass and clip it to your jacket.
Since your from norway i think you would have to rent a car since it would be difficult to get to mt.hood from the portland airport. Also getting to timberline everyday would be hard to. Hope this helps.
Tickets are $50, season summer pass is around $800

no, im an 19 and i did it too. it is cheaper if youre over 25.

you need to be 18. 21 doesn't make a difference because the next "level" is 25.

i hope i helped

basically you can ride the public park without being in a camp, the rest you need to be a part of the camp to ride. there's mhssc which is super chill and on the more ghetto end of things, they're poorer than the rest, there's windells that has a sick park, and there's high cascade which is the unbelievably rich camp for spoiled little rich kids and they have the best/biggest parks with lots of jibs and tons of varietythey also basically take over all of govy with their skate parks and lodgesyou can go to mhssc for a week for like 1000 bucks everything included, windells is like 2000, high cascade is 64 million for 3 days

uh high cascade is cheaper than windells and you stay there longer. Windells is the most exspensive, everything there costs a shitload to.
High cascade takes up a little parking space for a skate park and uses the same lodges every year for the kids.
I don't think you know what you are talking about buddy.

im 18 and i went to hood for 2 weeks last summer. me and my buddy flew out to my aunts house in portland and she let us borrow her car. we brought a tent and camped in a campsite near the mountain forr 2 weeks and skied every day. there is a public park for sure, and its pretty fun. way better than my home park in PA. last year in early june it was 3 jumps 20ft, 30 ft, and maybe 40-45 roughly for the last one. also like 7 rails. tickets are $50 dollars a day or a summer pass is like 800. im going back next summer hopefully for the whole summer

Go in July, or the last week in June. The weather is hit or miss before then. It is tough getting into Windells if you are not affiliated with the camp. But MHSSC will let you in their park at the end of the day. There is also the public park, but that is usually a dissapointment. As far as lodging, camping around Government Camp is the best option. Plus you can just hitchhike up and down the access road to get to T-Line.

I know you cant use windells unless you work or camp there. I know that pollard would duck the rope or hike up to windells and ride the park inbetween sessions. But i have heard lots of good stuff about windells so i would stay there and you dont have to take instruction you can just chill and ride

ya i do i was just exaggerating, i don't like high cascade, the kids who go there were so bitchy and i have to say, i'm a bit jealous haha, they get sick facilities, food, buses, parks, everything whereas mhssc is broke as shit but i still love it

ya true. i know some kids who went there. There rich wear tight pants and wear bandanas to school. People better not start wearing them around except on the mountain
