Hey NS,So im going to Mt Hood for a week at the end of June and we have eveything figured out besides one thing, our camp sites! As if there is not enough discussion about hood...I couldn't find the answers to these questions:

What are the closest camp sites to the mountain?

What does it cost to camp at these sites?

Will they be packed full, can i pay for a site in advanced?

What are the cheapest camp sites?

Help me out with camping at hood! Any advice would help a ton. Me and 3 other friends are 16 and 17 to help if there are age restrictions.

there are a ton of camping spots near timberline. you can camp at trillium, camp creek, etc. those ones cost money. Plenty of campgrounds along hwy 26 to pick from. as far as free spots... snowbunny which is off hwy 26 right across the highway from trillium, airstrip, all national forest land... drive down Lolo pass road in Welches into Mt Hood national forest. For food... hit up thriftway in Welches. its $900 for a summer pass and I think 40-60 for a day ticket... so do the math and figure out what you need. I'm not sure about reservations or anything for campsites... but as I was saying all national forest land is free game for up to 14 days at a time without moving spots (not 100% sure on the time frame, but i'm pretty damn sure).

Closest camp site is just gonna be in the parking lot lol, you best just sleep in your car though as i dont think they are cool with people setting up tents in the lot. Next closest would be to just drive down the west leg road until you are below the main ski slopes (they are building bike trails this summer and you don't want to be in the way) and find some spots in the woods. I've never actually checked it out but I know there was a popular spot a few years ago. Finally, the airstrip is the classic spot to go, its about 10 minutes from timberline and pretty popular. Its near Trillium lake (for your bathing needs) and theres plenty of people down to party. Keep in mind all of these places are free, and thus don't have amenities.

I know you can camp at Trillium Lake and a bunch of other designated spots between Sandy and govy, but all these places are going to run you $20-$30 a night. Check online first to see if you need to be 18 to reserve a spot, it could be the case. If not I would just go there and pick out where you want to camp, it's rare that they fill up.

Airstrip. There is already a crew posted up there. It's fun as shit. Be friendly and say hello!

the riskiest park is the hike up, which is about 1/2- 3/4 mile. for the main reason why would someone hike up if they had a lift ticket. once you're in the park your pretty much home free. last summer i saw a few kids get kicked out but park crew claimed it was for liability reasons. save your self the trouble and buy a ticket.

I am the freestyle manager for Timberline. I wouldn't try and hike. If we catch you on the hill without a ticket or pass we will take you down and charge you a fine and or trespass you from the mountain. We spend a ton of money on the hill and take poaching very seriously.

lololol. go build a booter in the canyon over. It will be way better than the pub stuff anyways.
