I've heard its mad crazy rippage... but I dont know how much to trust that, because I moved to michigan from the West and I'm wondering how a midwest 'double black' compares to a Rocky mountain double black. Nevertheless, I'm sure its got the best terrain in the area. And the mountain next to it (forgot what it's called) has a good park, or so I hear.

Anyway, I'll be up there over Christmas, and again for a high school weekend thing at the end of January.

And apparently, CHICKS SKI FREE at Bohemia. Best marketing plan ever. If you bring in the girls... then you bring in the boys!

Well I was at the Chicago Ski Show and they gave me an information movie about the place. The snow looks sick, there is tons of it. All the runs are ungroomed and there is a ton of tree skiing but it didn't look very steep (but still steeper than most the midwest). The biggest cliff I saw was only 10 ft too. I dont know, if looks good, but not truley amazing. My friend said it was insane but again he has only been out west once

Ahh hello my friends!!!! I live an official 20 minutes from this 'mt. bohemia' you speak of. Growing up skiing all over the country, I can officially say that....yes it is a great MIDWEST place to ski. Anything that says triple black....well, it's double black. Anything that says don't go there; by all means don't fuckin go there! There are large cliffs (in excess of 50'), big freakin rocks, and unskiiable runs. You can get into trouble if you don't know what you're doing. My suggestion; go with someone who knows and has been there, go when it snows, stay in nereby houghton, and....have fun with the midwests most bizzarre terrain. It's fun, but if you've never skied anything 'deep', 'steep', or 'in the trees' this is not for you....you will be bored.

Oh...the 'mountain next to it' aka: Mt. Ripley has an improved park from last year. I'm very involved with the hill...I teach there. There will be large tables, limited gaps, many many rails (the newest addition the 's' rail), and of course...you can build as big a freakin kicker you want. We don't give a shit as long as you mark it with a pole. Oh and by the by......we don't groom much here at Ripley either, ski wherever the hell you want...it's our culture.

Is it comparable to anything out west, because unless its is a lot gnarlier I think I will be fine with out a guide of somesorts.

It's still 'gnarly'.....but we lack terrain options. That is, we only have 900+ ft. of vert. Compare it to anywhere downstate you guys ski it's big....compare it to Whistler/Breck (wherever the hell you ski) it's small. You don't need a guide, but don't be a retard. I don't doubt you may have skill, but you still need a head on your shoulders to safely excecute. The only reason I would suggest a 'guide' is Bohemia, like anywhere, has it's hidden secrets. I know where the cliffs are, I know where it gets steep, I know how to avoid walking, and best of all....... I know where the snow is (we get 270'+ a year). I can guaruntee if we'd a 'normal week' that I can find snow on that hill all day, where you might spend all day looking for snow. It's the local advantage....just as if you were out west.

Mt. Bohemia is the shit. Simply awesome in the truest sense of the word. It's a

bit removed from civilization, but if you get to ride Bohemia on a powder day, I

guarantee you it'll be the best experience you'll ever have skiing the midwest. I've

been out west to the Utah resorts, Summit County area, and Montana......while it

can't hang with those guys, it honestly will remind you of it in terms of sustained

pitch and terrain. None of the runs are groomed except 2 under the chair, and the

main clliff band runs from 10 up to about 40 ft. Each run lasts 15 minutes

without stops, and when you get to the bottom, a shuttle bus picks you up to take

you back to the chair. Nothing beats finding your own line through woods and over cliffs

and just nailing it, then as you're still breathing hard, getting on the shuttle and

seeing all the grinning faces (the older ones with snowcaked beards) of people

who've just done the same thing.

yo morbumps4me, who are you? you said you work at Ripley or something, but you

don't sound like anyone i know.

dude, nxyzptlk=carl.....like it's not obvious, shit......

hm, were you the guy with the pocket rockets and a 'fro? last year was my

first year at school in Ann Arbor, so i only got to ride Ripley for like 2 weeks

last winter. Went through major withdrawal, the only skiing down here is

at Crystal, Shuss, etc, all the same. Ripley is where it's at, so i'm coming

to tech this winter.

No- Yer thinking of Chris Sweener.. He was a big jumper but couldn't ski for shit. Nice kid though. I had either a yellow or brown/black jacket and was skiing on either Dynastart 4x4 or K2 stuntmen...

It looks sweet from the pictures and video I've seen. I'm gonna go there someday.

There is nothing motherly about mother nature. Except for her big mountainous breasts.

Yeah, Boheims is pretty much the best place in the midwest for backcounty and pow...If you go up there stop by Ripley because it has a really good park, it already has 5 or 6 rails and a table. You need to come up here to ski over break carlos sanchez...

yeah, im from the rockin town of dollar bay, im at ripley almost every day, red jacket/tan pants/atomic rodeos. Im the one throwin switch misty 1260s...minus the switch misty 1080.
