Mt Baker on Turkey Day

Thinking about driving up to Baker from Tahoe over Thanksgiving... have watched the weather the past few turkey days and it has always been pounding there! Wondering if anyone rides there and what to expect early season? Should I make the trip? Is it usually open with a good base and snow falling?
Also any thoughts on lodging or where i can maybe get discounted tickets. I am going to check out craigslist... but any help would be great!
 
Try and find a place in Glacier there are some cabins there. By thanks giving they usually have a good amount of snow. Right now they have none at the base but things can change real quick. Baker is supposed to get some snow through out the week nothing major though. Late this weekend or early next week may be a different story.
 
cool thanks.. ill check out glacier for sure... yeah i have heard its really wet snow... but ridden bachelor in the spring a few times super heavy there too...but fun!
tahoe does not have any snow yet... boreal opened .. got 3 days in then it closed... getting some snow tonight ... just basing my trip on who has more snow... and for the past couple of years that has been baker!

Opening day of baker is the worst fucking day of the year. Too many fucking people and the cover is such shit that nothing is skiable. I mean fuck, Baker is usually rainy and shitty, but 1st days? Fuck that~

yeah its seems like your forecast is all over the place just like ours... we were expecting a large storm to start tonight and continue till after thanksgiving... but now it looks like its moving north.... looks like bakers temps could be right on the edge of rain... but probably more precip all around.... hmmmmmmmm...
 
Going to Bellingham tonight and looking for some folks to ride with at Baker. If they're not open and its a decent base, then I'll probably ski backcountry. It'll be my first time there, so I'd love some local's knowledge. Cheers, Tom
 
well it looks like a limited opening next wednesday the 21st so you could be in luck! 2 days down so far, stoked for the lifts to start spinning.
 
when they do a limited opening which chairs usually are spinning? .....How deep of a base does the resort need to be skiable? meaning.. some resorts here need only 3feet and they are good everywhere... others need about 10ft to be ridable...

they usually open with around 3 feet, skier be ware tho. lotsa sharks that will grab ya if youre not careful.

limited opening usually means all chairs but certain runs are closed. idk if 1 will be open either cuz it will be a midweek opening and 1 doesnt run midweek.
