Msu

I had a nice conversation with a cop a while ago while holding a glass of wine in a park after dark (for some reason being in a park after dark is illegal). Some of them are pretty cool, but there is definitely a few cops that are total dicks about everything.

I'm not gunna lie, the cops here are straight up faggots. almost 50 percent of our force is dedicated to catching underage kids for beer and pot. I mean it's bozeman, the cops don't have any real crimes to solve.

Dude, running from cops is generally the best idea. But, here in Bozeman the cops want you to run so they can tackle you and shit. I know a girl who got tazed cause she tried to run 3 times total. A innocent dude(friend of mine) riding his bike at like 3am who got tackled off his bike by the cops and eventually let go like 20 mins later after they figured out he wasnt the guy they were looking for. Cops here are rediculous you have to stay ahead of them and avoid doing stupid shit. There are "cool" cops too though. Partying is what you make it, theres always house parties and some other shit. Just no real clubs or anything like that. Weed situation is alright once you find people. Park skiing is usually kinda shitty but doable sometimes gooood. If you like climbing its got sick bouldering and sport/trad climbing close. Mtn biking DH and CC is really good. Girls are generally less "prissy" but the same. any more questions.

They got that murder solved pretty quick. My main issue with law enforcement is the amount of taxpayer dollars wasted (ahem, ahem) on catching adults (over 18) drinking.

The only reason they solved the murder quickly was because the guys left a ton of evidence and they were black. Obviously the cops are going to target the minorities first, they basically only look for them and teenagers whenever something happens.

You're right guys, this is a decent town. However oppotunities for me are nil, so you may see why I hold a biased opinion. There is no industry here so there are no options for me to work during the school year within my discipline, just crappy part-time service industry stuff. Unless you get lucky and score a research job on campus. Plus the cost isn't that bad here (one of my friends pays 700 a month with two roomates for a 2-bedroom+kitchenette/living room in Dinkytown the college part of town in Minneapolis), although salaries are horrendous here, it does tend to even out. I've lived off and on in Minneapolis, which has an absolutely amazing night-life during the summer. During the winter, you can't do anything. If you like clubbing/dancing there is nothing for after hours here. However the bar scene is pretty decent. Once I started to venture out away from the Engineering department more, I have found the female population isn't that bad, if you like cookie-cutter blonde girls that are stuck up ... unless you are on the football or basketball team. Again, me being negative, but also a bit serious about it. (Side note: seriously ... Montana state athletes? whoopidi doo, most of those assholes are so egotisitcal they blind themselves from the fact that they play for a small college in Montana. I worked with a kid who was the starting point guard for the U of Minnesota, a nationally recognized athlete, no ego. In fact I didn't know he was an athlete until he told me. But I must digress and get on with the point). Basically, I've lived in the valley for appoximately 18-19 of my 21 years, it has it benefits, but some people (me) can grow tired of the town. I will miss the skiing, I might miss some of the little parts of the town, (traffic is definitely not one of those things. I swear to god it is the most poorly designed street layout in the history of man.) but you must understand that I only get frustrated and "hate on bozeman" because it doesn't suit my fancy. I need to be somewhere where I can be applying my knowledge and skill and experiencing innovations of the engineering world first, be it in industry or at NASA. Those are my passions. Once I graduate, I will move away, chances are I may never see bozeman again. But the town has provided many happy memories. For 4 years, I say yes, you will love it here. Maybe you'll love it so much you haven't had enough and continue school here the other 2 or 4. I'm getting yet another pass at the Bowl, so hopefully, if I have time, I will see some of you on the mountain, that I have spent most of the last 10 winters on.

Ha ha I got pulled over on my bike too. I was baked out of my mind. I had nothing illegal on me so i knew he couldn't do shit. I just laughed while he was giving me a speach about safety and that I should have a light on my bike.

Yeah sucks when cops enforce the law, especially on something as safe as a bicycle. I mean if a cyclist runs a stop sign, what's the worst that will happen? A car hits them? Big deal. Cops that enforce the law need to knock that crap off and do their job.

god damn, im in the exact same boat, msu and boulder, but i really wanna do architecture, and bozeman is prety god for that, but everything goes down in boulder, but the backcountry is incredible in montana, the list goes on and on, i will never be able to decide. FUCK

Yeah, if you're doing architecture it really doesn't matter what the town or surroundings are like. Just find out which college has the best-looking books.

Im thinking about goin out there next year, is there a bus that runs up to the mtns or anything or is it just trying to find a ride with people, or hitchiking

i just got accepted, sent my app in a week ago and i already got a letter back....FUCK YEA

rock on man, coming to msu was the best decision of my life, and i haven't even gotten deep into my first ski season here yet either, its just going to keep getting better and better. One word of advice is get your housing shit sent in early so you can get what you want. also, if you can still retake the act, retake it as many times as possible because msu's scholarships are all based on test scores, if money is an issue for you. my academic scholarship helps out a lot. i know i personally would rather have 16000 dollars then give that away to the school.

fuck yes i got my acceptance to montana, and waiting on the one from boulder, if i dont get in there, i guess the decision will kinda be made for me

I just got accepted to MSU and Im waiting from boulder but i did get a 6000 dollar scholarship so im really considering. But if what you guys say is true like cops being total dicks I was kinda looking forward to not being paranoid when Im high. I was also wondering are people generally more liberal or conservative in Bozeman?

Oooohhhh...I'm going to go ahead and disagree with you. There is definitely a liberal vibe on campus, and the rest of the town is pretty mixed--but probably still on the liberal side. Granted UM is the hippy town, but I just attribute that to copious amounts of acid and shrooms (just kidding......maybe). However, I will point out that most of our represenatives around here are the most idiotic fundamentalist conservatives you can imagine. It's almost comical at times, until I realize the sad truth that they are making decisions for me. This concludes my short ramble.

i would agree that the feel is pretty liberal. there is a good mix, but definitly the more people i talk to around town, the more liberal i realize this town is, definitly not like u of m hippy, but still liberal. must be all the drugs at u of m.

Thats cool i wasnt too worried about it cause i get along with most people anyway but im glad there seems to be a mix.

but are the cops really that bad? cuz i live in a town where the cops are pretty bored so i know how to deal with it but, I also do live next to Sanfransisco where weeds practically legal so i can go their and have no worries.

nah man, they are just like every other town. just dont be stupid about it and ull be fine

I wouldn't stereotype that far, but I agree that its more of a conservative campus.

I don't get a very liberal vibe from Bozeman at all, and the campus seems to be pretty conservative as well, at least compared to U of M and UW Madison (the only other two campuses i'm familiar with, which are both very liberal).
