MSU or U of M

If you want to ski, go to MSU. Otherwise go to U of M. But I'm guessing because we are on NS, you want to ski.

It depends. I went to the U of M. I Skied alot at Big Mountain (good 3 hour drive, their passes are like 350$ for college kids, i had places to stay along the way and up in Whitefish usually) and also at Snowbowl which is like a half an hour drive from Missoula. Its an older place but they have some sick terrain, no terrain park or anything. There isnt exactly a huge newschool skiing scene at Missoula, but they did get a sick ass new skatepark if you are into that. Its open til like 11 pm.

Good points of Missoula:

1. You can ride your bike just about anywhere you need to, even in Winter if you are core.

2. Alot of good concerts come there

3. Sick skatepark

4. Somewhat easy access to a few different ski mountains, although you have to drive alot. Having a car is going to be nice for you no matter where you go if you want to ski often.

5. Professors all seem to be cool for the most part

Bad points

1. "newschool" skiing scene is weak

2. There are some weirdos that live there, had some guy downtown getting up in my face asking if i smoked meth and shit it was fucking stupid, my friend had a bike stolen there too, but he got it back somehow, heh

Addition to bad points: No good skiing within an hour, lost trail i think is the closest legit ski place, and its like 2 hours?

yea all the skiers that go to the U that ive talked to hate the skiing scene. 2 hours to one good ski area. snowbowl is close but it sucks hardcore. lookouts 2 hours away and usally opens early but its a small and pretty flat mountain and there terrain park is a joke.

i lived in the zoo(missoula) for 14 years and I am so glad I don't anymore (i now live in whitefish, way better).

i visited MSU and bozeman, it is way cooler, the mountains around bozo are sick, i am big into hiking and i cant even imagine the possibilities.

for me it is a no brainer, i would way rather go to MSU than UM, but you also have to look at programs because there are way different ones at each school. i am interested in engineering, so MSU is the spot. i believe UM has a better business, pre-law, and med school but don't quote me on that.

I dont think edvic knows what hes talking about. If there isn't partying, there will be next year because a solid majority of the sr class here does, and alot of them are going to MSU. And there are good looking girls here, maybe not as much as missoula, but look at the sizes of the towns, more people = more hot girls, simple ratio.

There are plenty of dudes and ladies in both places, and from my experience at colleges, party and college are synonymous. so the one difference is skiing. in missoula you can drive 15-20 min. to a really horrible ski resort, snowbowl, and trust me i grew up skiing there, so you can go to lost trail (1.5 hr) or big mtn (2.5 hr). on the other hand in bozeman, there is bridger (30 min) and big sky (1.5 hr). i would definitely choose bozeman from that.

but like i already said, you have to look at what you're interested in! for instance if you want to do engineering, don't go to um because they don't offer it.

WOW, you guys need to come to reality and realize I am a senior at MSU and that I have spent five years on this campus and know this shit. No question whether U of M has better chicks, and whether MSU has sick skiing. Wait till you come here, and then go party in Missoula, then write in this forum. I wish it wasn't so.

I think we do alright for girls. I've met quite a few on campus (definitely not in the engineering dpartment), downtown and at parties. Skiing is alright, no newschool at bridger, but big sky does alright. I don't recall a lot of fun parties, and still rarely find some, so until you're 21, you're probably going to be playing beer pong with a bunch of dudes.

here in the zoo we ski amazing deep pillows and hit cliffs about 4 times a week. snowbowl is week but no one has ever hiked behind it (rattlesnake wilderness). Not the place for park rats but soo good.. and there are girls here too

I would just like to politely mention that I am a chick who is going into engineering in the fall, and one who thoroughly enjoys a good round of beer pong with the dudes!

Plus for all you guys, since the skiing is better at Bridger, then it is worth it, you NS should know this

well them Ms MillerTime. We welcome you with open arms. An engineering girl who doesn't mind beer pong, you're A-OK in my book.

ive built 6 or 7 different booters (lolo pass), skied 90+ days(got a place in PC, and did a bunch of Fernie/big mountain trips), and had a great time here in zoo. u get variety skiing outa missoula. I personally hate the scene in boze, based on the fact their is no scene. The bars are dead compared zootown. If all u care about is skiing the MSU might be alright, however not being from montana and having a biased,i chose UM after spending a good amount of time at each school. Missoula is just a college town and Bozemon, well, just isn't.

I agree that skiing can be had in the Zoo, but targhee is 3 hrs from Bozeman, SLC is 5, and Jackson is 3/12-4, those numbers don't run, and these places kill fernie, no offense. Bozeman lacks scene because people are totally mindfucked by skiing and riding here, the scene is that you better be good, whether you are a park rat or a BC ripper, bring your A+ game to Bozeman.

I guess in Montana terms Bozeman is a party scene and has chicks, but you guys need to visit some girl/party friendly campuses, aka CU-Boulder(my hometown, U of Washington, even Wyoming has exponentially more chicks.

I am also a chick who is going to montana in the fall... so yeah there are going to be some sick skier/ snowboarder girls there that like to chill with the guys and know how to have a good time!

haha good cause i might have to kill you. no offense but pretty much every senior on the soccer team are fucking dickheads. actually i know a few who are kinda cool, but bozeman people in general tend to be assholes.

I would 100% agree with that, I went down to Bozeman for a 4 days and I was amazed at how many more people were rude and unhelpful, comparatively.

I'm not from bozeman, and I think the people in bozeman are super-unfriendly, (not everyone mind you, but a healthy percentage). I am glad I chose MSU, but if skiing wasn't my life, I would wish I was in missoula

e-heath your lame, i'm going to put some clips up soon of lines skied within 40 mins of missoula , you don't know shit, you hate on everything, get a life besides NS

You can't seriously say that missuola has better ski areas than bozeman, im not talking about skiing in general, snow bowl blows ive been there.

i have lived in missoula and skied in bozeman and i would definitely have to say that the skiing at resorts is better in bozeman. however, there is some cool skiing if youre willing to hike in missoula

the way i see it, if you put a shitload of kids that are college aged, something fun has to go down, so i'm not too worried about a lack of girls or parties. (I hope)

Carroll, thats where im going. Sadly skiing is going to be shitty, but oh well, excellent backcountry, i just need to find a sled.

I'm not talking about resorts i'm talking about backcountry and snow bowl has a lift to the top and from there you can hike to amazing back country. Also lolo pass has amazing backcountry, hardly anyone knows where it is, that is a good thing. But ya bozemen has lifts

i dont think i should have used the word shitty. I just mean the skiing wont be as good as my home mountain that is Big Mountain or as good as Big Sky. Im sure Great divide has something to offer, i dont know what yet.

well... atleast great divides park will be good next year.... thats always a plus if we dont have any fucking snow... :(

i htink kevin taylor (owner of great divide) is going to start blowing earlier, and i know he sent somebody to cutters camp. so looking on the bright side... our park should be sicker then ever!

you can't really compare the 4 ranges we have here in Bozeman of BC to your lolo pass and snowbowl. I agree lolo is sick, but the N.bridgers, spanish peaks, and hangermann's in Madison range are all so dope, and more vert. I didn't even mention Montana's BC holy grail, the crazies, whcih are about 50 minutes from Bozeman. I am sorry but Missoula cannot hang with Bozeman in skiing, no way, no how. Are you next going to try and convince me that red lodge is better than the big mountain?????

well I'm going to MSU, so if you're the man, go there, and if you're a dick, go to missoula so I don't have to deal with you
