look at tehm, compare them in this thread.

my conclusion-skiing sucks, if I were younger i'd take up snowboarding

I love big mountain and BC skiing. It's something that has always appealed to me about MSP's movies even if they aren't staggeringly progressive and innovative anymore. That said, it wasn't an hugely impressive trailer. But honestly, other than the bike rack jib and a couple other cool shots, the Absinthe trailer didn't really impress me either. So it comes down to this: sick bike rack jib vs. sick sw double backflip. And Rory's sw double back was the absolute dopest thing i've seen all season. So MSP wins.

BTW, it's spelled trailer.

yea i was kidding.

did you see the location of half the steezy illness? BC/big mountain, its seth, but with style

matchstick is fucking gay...absinthe shit on it. as long as you put your money into MSP instead of companies like Level 1, rage, etc. skiing will be shit on forever. and don't say how much more professional or whatever msp is than some of the smaller companies...

it makes me sad for now, and hopeful for the future to think what Berman, Iberg, or Ostness could do with a budget like MSP's. basically what this is comparing is...

One of the Snowboarding Film Industry's Tightest Players + Snowboard Film Industry's Bigger Budgests > One of Ski Film Industry's Gayest Fags + Ski Industry's BIGGEST BUDGET

Make skiing's side of the equation more like snowboardings, and we can step to the plate.

FUCK YOU MSP, although you may have some of the best riders, helicopter shots, etc, your very existence is holding back the progression of ski films.

its not that snowboarding is cooler, its that they are doing shit that skiers arent even thiking about. the editing is so much better. they got thier shit on lockdown. skiing needs to open up

skiing will never reach this level for four reasons:

1st, most pro skiers spend months competing and not filming.

2nd, every one of the riders in absinthe has a snowmobile, traveling in a pack using one another. tanner bought his 1st sled this season, how's that for progression. dumont still doesn't have a sled, nor has he traveled with more than three other pros all season. point: no continuity with more than 3-5 guys with any crew for skiing.

3rd, these guys understand there goals, they could give a shit about drinking fine wine in far off lands for cinematography purposes. these guys want the biggest jumps, best landings, best rails, etc. they understand it takes an entire season to get this. sage travels the enitre season and look at his part last year, not even close to this, he would rather follow the tgr suit and say how "epic it was."

4th and final, no ski film company will ever get a dozen riders to commit to one outfit for an entire season. the average skier would rather get a couple shots in multiple films.

SKIING JUST DOESN"T GET IT. IT HAS IT'S MOMENTS LIKE THE HIP AT MAMMOTH, BUT THEY ARE SHORT LIVED AND NOT CONTINUAL AS A GROUP THROUGH AN ENTIRE SEASON. MACK DAWG CREW STICKS WITH MACK DAWG. DEFECTIVE FILMS STICKS WITH DEFECTIVE. ABSINTHE STICKS WITH ABSINTHE. RIDERS LIKE VANULAR AND CARLSON ARE WITH MULTIPLE OUTFITS SPENDING MUCH OF THEIR TIME COMPETING.

I think that what you said here is true, except for saying skiing will NEVER reach that level. Skiing isnt currently at that level, but given time it will reach that level where there is a deep enough pool (and deep enough pockets) where there will be more people like Anthony Boronowski who just film with one company all year.

Acutally people who see MSP films are blown away by them and gives really good credit to new school skiing. We're more invovled with the sport so we can easily point out the flaws, but this kind of film is what is going to get skiing more attention.

Absinthe is on a whole nother level. There movies are not lala travel wow we are so epic movies that you see so much of in the ski world. There no bullshit we got the best shots and and were going to show them to you. Future Proof was amazing last year, maybe only lacking some tech urban stuff. This year it sounds like they steped up the urban big time. The rider line up is just rediculous as well.

It seems to me that in all the snowboard trailors i've seen there all having so much more fun then us skiers. This sounds weird but in skiing trailors or movies there lacking much originality and fun. Take this teaser for example. Thinkthat.com

I think it's, it's just amazing. No trick in that teaser blows my mind, but i just can't watch it one time. i love how innovative it is and fun. I love to watch them have fun and enjoy doing what they do best. In skiing trailors and movies there's just none of that, were falling behind.

gangsters, haters..we all just take ourselves too fucking seriously...i'd say tbc does a good job of putting th fun back in skiing

Why are we comparing peas and carrots. Snowboarding and freeskiing are different.

Freeskiing is still too young to be compared to snowboarding.

well i jsut saw Msp's trailor and i think it looks way better than hit list.I think the artsy stuff is ok as long as it still looks sweet, and its decent tricks.

If u ask me wut is gonna push skiing to new levels is crazy park stuff like big gap rails and huge spins on to rails and spins off of big clifs. I think wut we need to see less of in movies is just simple carving because to some ppl this is just boring and in some ways can give freestyle skiing a bad reputation. o yea and creative tricks on urban rials are a must.

that absinthe trailer was the best trailer i have ever seen. end of story. that's for sure the first movie i buy this coming fall.

exactly man.

the trailer for MSPs movie wasnt that bad, but its just a trailer. If the trailer is any indication of the movie, at least judging by the past 2 movies, the movie won't be all that good. just the same ol same ol.

no! what you are saying is fucking retarded.

Question: DOes MSP impress people with their creativeness, sweet soundtracks, innovation, and artistic editing? Or do Rory Bushfield, Eric Pollard, Mike Wilson, etc. impress people?

MSP are stale, lame, uncreative assholes who do nothing but focus their efforts into keeping down small film companies that oooze talent by coercing sponsors and the small companies themselves.

I got an idea to give skiing twice as much 'really good credit': split MSP's $250,000 budget between Berman or Ostness and Rage or Iberg. The result would be two groundbreaking movies that each alone would shit on MSP's movie.

MSP's very existence is a disservice to you the ski film consumer and the ski scene as a whole.

Spend your money on L1P, Rage Films, or Theory 3 and support innovative companies if you want ski films to innovate enough to ever hold a candle to snowboarding.

FUCK MSP, its been the same gay shit for 5 years now...I want something new.

no way fuck that shit....is this true? i will officially go on a crusad eaginst msp if so...i heard they were filmign earlier thsi year???!??!?!??!

If Thats the best one youve ever seen then look at this one. Fucking Blew My Mind....

Click the May Clip. It says Trailer.

I know it takes a long time to load, and I know its tricky to get to. But go to it. Way beyond any level imaginable.

Im Claiming it right now too. The song in the trailer is going to be everywhere in a matter of months....

ok, so here's the story...and before i lay this all out, i'm going to say that the ski community is a huge gossip box, and that it isn't impossible that I recieved misinformation for whatever reason.

If that is the case, I would appreciate, and I'm sure everybody else on here would, if Ostness, Henrik, Steve Winter, Helly Hansen's promotion director, or anybody else who would be directly involved came on here to clear up the issue.

anyhow, in feb. or so i was told this by a friend who filmed with ostness and was part of the original TBC film, who will indefinately remain nameless due to the controversial nature of this.

the story goes: at the beginning of the season, TBC was lined up to make a second film, and began filming for it. they cut some of riders from the original film, and were going to make 'super pro' only film with 8-12 of the biggest names.

a little way into the season Steve Winter sat down with Helly Hansen to work out funding for the new MSP movie. Wanting more money for the film, Steve popped in a copy of Teddy Bear Crisis while with someone from Helly Hansen, and played the movie, counting the minutes and seconds of Helly Hansen product exposure and Oakley product exposure. All said and done, Oakley had more seconds of product exposure per dollar of funding contributed than Helly Hansen. Steve Winter explained to Helly Hansen that this was bullshit considering HH was TBC's presenting sponsor. HH also is the presenting sponsor for MSP's movie. Mr. Winter then told HH that no such discrepencies had occured in MSP's film, nor would such a thing happen in next years film. Explaining that MSP had much more promotional value to offer HH per dollar, Steve effectively convinced HH to withdraw from TBC as presenting sponsor, and rather to contribute the money to MSP instead.

Ostness, then struggling to find a presenting sponsor who could contribute as well as HH had, found TBC in a tight spot to be able have the neccessary funding in order to create a movie on the level of the original and still support himself.

Steve then offered Ostness more money than he could have made himself sans HH's funding, to film for MSP. Ostness, needing a for sure income and wanting to continue filming skiers for a living, accepted. This whole thing assured Winter more funding, more exclusiveness of the riders in his film (as MSP and TBC shared many of the same athletes), and effectively insured less competition when it came to DVD sales. This also effectively deprived us, the DVD consumers, of one of the most innovative film companies to come out in years.

Ostness is, as far I have heard, currently filming for MSP.

Like I said, if this is not what actually went down, I would like to hear it from someone directly involved. I for now believe it entirely, it would not be the first time Steve Winter pulled some bullshit to further his own cause at the expense of smaller and more creative film companies, who with proper funding would certainly out shine MSP; that, and this came from a reliable source.

Until I find out without a doubt that this isn't at all true, FUCK MSP.

Actually, either way, FUCK MSP, for the bullshit with Berman, and for holding back ski films in general by gobbling up massive amounts of sponsor $$$ and for gay sound tracks, gay editing, and gay business practices.

Ostness, you are too talented to not make your own films!

...and pardon the ranting nature of this, i had knee surgury yesterday and am fucked on norco and valium
