i saw one rail shot in seven sunny dayz and it was a dfd in breck in the the opening scene where they show where they filmed the flick.

too bad nobody hit it.

that was a big dissapointment for me.

sure powder and big jumps are impressive but there is no way anyone from out east can relat to a film like that.

kinda felt like wathcing warren miller flick minus the expedition stuff.

I am definitely not a rail fan so I didn't really notice the lack of rails...but yeah that's interesting I figured they would've put some in to appeal to the east coast.

I want some east coast movies because I ski in the southern portion of the east coast, so icy moguls and thin coverage are the most challenging experiences I ever get. Rails and jumps are the only thing we really have.

Yeah but if I wanted to watch rails, I'd pick up a Level 1 movie or something. I like MSP because of the amazing filming, and thats all thats really important to me.

idk. i like a lot of diversity in one movie. i like to see some urban, some park, some backcountry pow, no big mountain cause it boring as hell to watch.

I really liked the movie, never even noticed the lack of rails. Probably cause I'm not an east coast kid and I never even started sliding rails till I was like 15 or 16. And I've done 2 urbans in my life cause they're about the only one's in my city. I dunno different movies for different tastes. Level 1 always has tons of rails, I acctually get kinda bored watching them sometimes to tell you the truth, I guess it's just cause I don't really relate to them all that well cause I grew up without rails, like east coast kids grew up without pow and jumps.

Although I didn't have much pow ussually either

i agree with you but the big mountain in Ski Porn was actually pretty good since they didn't do too much of it and it was insane lines and camera angles when they did, but nothing this year was very diverse including big mountain in the movie.

Sammy had the Hood Meadows entrance rails as the first shots of his part. But other than that i noticed almost no rails. Anomoly had one rail that Dash did but it was just a simple slide with no spins or anything.

I really liked the movie

it didn't bother me too much that there were only a few rails...but I would have liked to see more.

Sammy has maybe 6-7 rail shots in his segment, but just because that's about it for rails in SSD doesn't mean MSP has anything against rails.  Most MSP skiers are from places where rails aren't a focus of their skiing, and while most of those skiers are stoked to slide rails every now and then, the shots they'd end up getting would probably pale in comparison to guys like Ahmet and TWallisch who devote way more time to the urban scene.  So, you get switch 5s off cliffs instead.

being from the east coast.. rails are prolly my favorite thing in movies lke seeing guys slay hard urbans and shit. i like jumps and pow jumps but i hate watching bc lines prolly cuz i cant relate to it. they all look the same to me.

i don't agree- if every movie were a decent mix of everything, you would never get enough in depth focus on any partucular area of the sport. i love the fact that i can pick up a tgr/msp movie knowing full well that i'll be amazed by the likes of ingrid, sage, ian mac, abma, jjones etc doing what they do. at the same time its great that if i want to see how the kids are progressing in the urban environment (which is getting rediculous, but still not at snowboarding's level), i can pick up a level one movie.

in other words, different movies showcasing different aspects of the sport is perfect for me. vive le choix!

TJ and sammys parts were so awesome. I think msp could kill it if they did a park/urban only movie, the filming was so amazing. Too much big mountain for my taste, but the park shots they did have were SO AWESOME

who cares, urban rails are the most boring part ski movies. there is just nothing exiting about them for the most part, ocationaly you see a good one, like that one Zach did in War, but for the most part they suck.

if you want urban, watch level 1.  Urban rails appeal to 5% of skiing's audience... and rollerbladers.  True Story.

there was more rails than that, sammy was hitting some rails and there were rails in the crash segment.

Why would you even title a thread like this, obviously you didnt watch the whole movie, cuz there are like 8 different rails in Sammys seggy....Why make a movie to just appeal to the East Coast? When you can make one appeal to skiers coast to coast? I dont care if all you do is slide rails you cant say that the shit Abma, Tj, Sammy, Ingrid.....the list goes on wasnt impressive, and then to watch Abma, jump in on a keystone shoot with Sammy and the whole level 1 crew.....Good times....

im an east coast skier and i didnt like idea at all just for that reason.

east coast kids just arnt intrested in watching peopel land switch in pow over and over

most of the movies this year didn't have much in the way of rails. i didn't like it (being from the ec and all)

sucks, rails are the one place that skiing still has so far to go with. so many possibilities that havent been tapped yet and im not talking rollerblade grinds, flips on, or multi kinks. dayum we have 4 ways to pop on from two different sides two directions to spin at least 4 ways to slide pretzel/danish, add that up and there at at least 50 tricks before you have to spin more than 270 on zmgogg

If ski movies were porn, MSP's would be the softcore stuff for sure. I kinda agree with Landis on this, watch Level 1 for crazy rails, Matchstick has gone all BC and big booter.

i am...

just cause you live on the east doesn't mean you've never had the opportunity to try some spins into powder.

MSP had a ton of rails in their movies until Hit List. They used to have a ton, like the urban stuff in the Bronx in Focused, Mike Douglas' huge run in to small summer flat rail in ski movie 2. All of a sudden MSP was like, no more rails with Hit List. It's not like they dont have good shots of that rails. They film with a bunch of good skiers. Personally. I dont think Ill ever buy an MSP movie again. I haven't been impressed with the last 3 movies except for pollards parts.

Yo Ced, rails are at the core of skiing. What else can you do when it's 75 out at a damn hockey rink in the middle of summer? How else can you sesh in your back yard til 5 am? To a lot of us out there, rails are at the core of skiing. You don't really feel as devoted to skiing until you're scraping snow up and seshing the tiniest shit for hours, just cause it's so damn fun. Rails are sick, and they're really important. It's unfortunate that professional level shit like MSP has given up on rails, cause they're just missing what's going down.
